COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

The Expose which is like reading The Onion.
Even for you @jsmoke the Expose is a bit far down the rabbit hole.

So I just tested positive this morning. Started feeling not quite right yesterday so did a test and was negative, woke up this morning feeling awful and then tested positive. First time I officially have it. Pretty sure I had the original varient the week before the first lockdown, but couldn't get a test without being sent to hospital at that point.
I think I would prefer to not know I have it, if i feel unwell I will just deal with it, I would probably only get tested if it became severe enough to hospitalise me else I would have that fear factor of what covid can do to you.
I have accepted now although it was good to raise awareness for people to be careful, it did cause huge amounts of fear and confidence issues.

Well I failed to avoid it. Covid household here :(

Is anyone on the list of “special people” eligible for treatments? I am only because I had radiotherapy treatment for a possible tumour on my eye in January so I have obviously been put on the list of people who have recently had cancer treatment.

I felt rough yesterday but much better today already. Don’t fancy donating my body to science just yet if I’m already getting over it..

None of these treatments sound fun! https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coron...s-for-coronavirus/treatments-for-coronavirus/

Yeah, I've had one of the treatments, the antibody one, it's not really a big drama (booking it back in January was though as quite a few of the people you speak to on NHS 111 are pretty dumb and when dealing with something they're unfamiliar with they really struggle).

After 2 /12 years I finally caught it.

Tested positive Friday morning after a very hot night Thursday (with higher than usual HR).

Mostly been ok, feverish on Friday with a banging head, yesterday was mostly sneezing, coughing and tiredness.

From about 1am it's been the night sweats, although my fever is broken. so it'll be a day of many cool showers!

We’re you still feeling bad when you went in for it? Besides a dry cough now I feel pretty ok, it was just Friday that I was nauseous and had a banging headache.

Also, was it a drip thing you had?

I had a mild case, it's not particularly relevant how you're feeling but rather if you're at risk, the point of the treatments is to get them early on in an infection in order to try and mitigate the risk of it possibly turning bad, it's quite plausible that I'd have been fine and would have had a mild case regardless, I'd had 3 vaccinations at the time. Yup, it was a drip, a bag of the antibodies then a small bag of fluids after and then back home.

I'm curious as how the figures for stats are gleaned given that testing and recording has now stopped? How are we working out the '1 in 15' people in Scotland/England/Wales/Norn Iron have Covid type figures, what data is that being based upon?

Random sample testing of the population, the way it’s always been done I think.

Weirdly it has seemingly vanished again around here, at least as far as anyone I know, but the local district hospital is seeing a fairly substantial spike in cases. From what I can make out it seems to be surging in care homes and similar - places elderly friends/relatives are in have seen cases quadruple through July.

Dad still in hospital and testing positive 40 days later, drain in lung due to pleural effusion, not eating due to super sore throat and lost a lot of weight as a result, so now they are liquid feeding him. He may be 70, but also he has never had to be admitted to hostpital for the entire time I've been alive, but it's just flu bro /s

Sorry to hear that, hope his condition improves soon.

3 weeks off sick for me, going back to work next week hopefully, strength now returning but taste and smell still quite numbed. Used to drink a couple of cups of coffee first thing in the morning to get me going now can’t drink it, tasted like hot mettallic liquid. Used to be a regular G&T drinker also and now it just burns as it goes down but oddly enough i’m now into malibu and coke instead.

So worked all through the main 2 years of the pandemic without getting hit with covid and then get it from my first holiday at centerparcs I guess from the 30deg humidity around the pool area. I will be going back to wearing an FFP2 mask when i’m shopping and visiting customers from next week.

Day 9 of either Covid (which isn't giving an LFT positive) or some weird summer flu, still no sign of an endgame in sight.

Sleeping a lot more than normal, but waking feeling super groggy. Headache that eases off slightly with paracetamol, body aching just slouching around, painful and slow when moving especially on stairs as if wearing leg weights.

First time I've had any bug this year, so frustrating to happen peak summer and feel completely incapable of doing anything.

Company have announced they want us in the office Tues/Wed/Thurs. It's been a while coming, so no surprises there. Anyone else's workplace getting more strict?

I think it's for the best personally, but then again we bought our new place last year and I have a very easy commute. a lot of my colleagues that come in from outside of London are not going to be happy, their train tickets hit £40+ a day and if you're doing 3 days a week then you may as well lump for a season ticket.

Enjoy the fact that there will always be a significant portion of the office off sick because covid keeps rolling through, lol.

Trend in recruitment is people are looking for remote or hybrid roles so employers with strict attendance requirements may find it harder than others to fill vacancies. Depends on the nature of the work though and how much of a difference being in the office actually makes. 1 or 2 days in the office seems a good balance, 3 days or more and like you say travel costs start to become a bigger factor.

I’m currently WFH due to Covid, lol.

I don’t think they’ll struggle to fill roles personally. We’re a movie studio, there’s always people willing and always youngsters that want the London lifestyle. I’m not young, but I would be bored stiff WFH 4 days a week.

I’d imagine what they are suggesting is very much in line with other related companies too.
