COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Let's be honest, it isn't hard to tell, many will die because of the fact nothing else but covid mattered for a time.

There are certain behaviours and actions that shouldn't be forgotten, potentially not even forgiven to be brutally honest.

Agree - the government's failure to prepare properly for a pandemic despite it sitting at the top of the risk register for years and failure to take effective and timely action right at the start of the pandemic, and then in the lead up to each spike in infection should not be forgotten. Those failures meant the entire healthcare system could deal with almost nothing else.

The lack of effective leadership and a clear plan at crucial points in the pandemic might well be unforgiveable.

It's all brushed under the rug now, don't hear a word of it on the news now.

Seems to have completely vanished again around where I am - you wouldn't even know it was even a thing except for the odd signs, etc. still around.

I do dread this coming winter though - I think the level of prevalence generally in the population is potentially going to enable a very rapid spike once the season comes when these kind of diseases tend to start going around proper.

We used to have much more planning for it - but despite at the time recent reports highlighting the risks of it and being one of the biggest potential likely threats most of the old planning was retired without replacement.

While more for dealing with stuff like potential use of various chemical or biological agents in a terrorist attack type scenario than a virus like this for instance the lab I worked in as an assistant for awhile had emergency procedures to rapidly repurpose as a biosafety level lab (can't remember the grade) and there was a plan in place to establish a direct transit corridor with the local district hospital (opening up access via disused railway cuttings, etc.) avoiding road bottlenecks - then around 10 years ago that was all shelved without any replacement.

Will be very little ventilation this winter as well with such high energy prices.

Hopefully the next sub variant will remain mild.

Well my father who came over for a family get together a month ago from where he lives in spain announced he caught covid after arriving home though none of us had it must have been the airport or the plane I told him to wear a respirator mask for the flight but like a lot of people he thinks being fully jabbed up he'll be fine and its all over now right? Well he was floored for two weeks with a nasty dose of it he's ok now but its not something I'd want.

Went into Burger King today, not been for years. Stood in queue for 5 minutes only to get to the till, place order then be told it's card only.. which I didn't have on me, only cash. Due to COVID which is now non existent? No one else seems to have any issues exchanging notes? Well up yours Burger King!

Still many people who don’t have a card. How can they cope in modern society? Esp at the first lockdown it was card only. Then got looked down by staff and customers as paid with dirty/filthy cash
