COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

I have had covid once so far, not had any of the vaccines. was "ilL" with flue like symptons for one day, every time i moved my head felt like i could feel my brain moving. Very weird feeling. Day after was not 100% but maybe 80% 3rd day was like nothing had happened. All in all, for me i beleive not having the vaccine was the best choice.

I guess my quick recovery would have been put down because i was smart and had the vaccine, so had mild symptoms which im sure every one who had the vaccine and had mild covid believes. I can tell you this is not always the case.

Well it screwed up your ability to type

Any idea of how many tests ONS randomly send out each week to make 1 in 40 have Covid?

Have you or know anyone else who has been randomly selected?

I was randomly selected by a study by Imperial College London about 14 months ago. Gave me a PCR test to put in a box - which was very fiddly to construct. Got a text and a letter saying negative.

Yes. Firstly in January 20, then February 21, December 21 and most recently last Monday. All my episodes have lasted just short of a week, and have laid me in bed for nothing short of 5 days.

I’m surprised I’m still going tbh.
My colleague has had it in April 2020, Nov 2020, Jan 2021 and June 2022. All different strains and the middle two floored her.

Should be on here somewhere, they explain the modelling on there as well - https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...viruscovid19infectionsurveypilot/26august2022. They also note they have gone from doing physical visits to have tests taken to post now.

Wow I would be more worried about the condition of your immune system and what you can be doing to supplement it TBH

Not me, a colleague.

She’s a fussy eater.

Noticed that those who are fussy eaters (esp fruit n veg) tend to get more colds and last longer.

Top G immune system here m9.

No, sadly as a smoker I've put myself more at risk. The most recent episode has really made me think about my health and I've quit cold turkey. I won't go back. Changed my whole outlook on my health and the value, sometimes it is a little too late, but I've gotten very lucky.

@cheesefest You're not wrong, as a fussy eater I don't really get ill. I think before Covid last time I got ill was in 2013 with pneumonia.

Also my colleagues with (grand)children under 7 they get more colds

I bet you are one of those who wore their mask outside when we had that mid 30c heat. Wore one to collect my prescription from pharmacy and it was awful.

Funnily enough I did a few times but I must be made of different stuff as I had no problems really. But then I wasnt doing anything that might make me short of breath.

Maybe it might be all the mask wearing practice I put in.

Thought I was immune to this damn thing given I commute through Wembley/Ealing Road every day and have worked since April 2020 as a keyworker during lockdown. Quite sure I know exactly how I got this as it was from a fellow bus passenger on Friday but thats another story.

I woke up on Sunday morning with sheer body pain and headaches that resembled my state the day after I was first vacinated. I normally test myself once a week and this time for the first time I tested positive. I must have slept for over 10hrs during that day because I was so weak.

Monday comes and my aches have mostly subsided as have the headaches. However I now have my nose leaking more fluids than Thames Water and I have a mild cough to boot.

Tuesday - Slept sod all because I kept coughing at night. My body is discharging a ton of phlegm however the coughing has made my chest very sore and my throat rough.

Nurofen is keeping most of the pain at bay and bronchial balsam solution is helping my throat a bit. I wouldn't wish what I have on anyone really.

Edit: Be aware, Sainsburys flow kits don't work for reporting results!

Wondering what peoples thoughts are on Wuhan Flu being a naturally occurring zoonotic virus or lab leak these days. It seems to be a moving target. I wonder if we'll ever get a reliable answer? Or does even asking such a question place me firmly in the tin hat brigade?

Got my second dose of covid this week. Someone came into work with a cold, they tested negative that morning. I had a three hour meeting with them.

I knew something was up, I'm in the meeting thinking, why are you here?

The guy goes home and the next morning informs me he has tested positive. Within 3 days I have it and it's been a horrible ride.

I wouldn't care as much but it's now going to spread round my family. I don't have anywhere in the house to isolate from the whole family and that means when the kids go back to school one or more of my kids are going to have it and not go back after 6 weeks off already.

Why do people insist in coming into work with a cold?
