COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

None of the private kits do; only the NHS ones did.
Yet if you have covid symptoms on a Viking Cruise, you have to use theirs, not your own. As family friend got tested positive. Informed whoever (never been on a cruise) and they said who's test kit you used. Said it was one they brought with them. Have to use our kits. A few mins later, a testing kit arrived by their cabin door. Took their test - negative.

I'm yet to meet an antivaxxer I'd consider intelligent though. They all seem to be in a contest to out-stupid each other.
Most anti vaxxers who live where I live don't work and smoke weed. When we had colleagues at the entrance during the compulsory mask wearing days, they come in without a mask. Ask them "would you like a mask". "I'm exempt" coming out from their weed smelling mouths. I didn't do this as actually exempt myself. Some days I did wear a mask. As all I got from that AV lot was asking me where my mask was and other kicking off things.

Some "claimed" to have a condition, and 99% of the time if they did say a condition, it was asthma. Which I found offensive. I felt so tempted to ask questions that only actual asthmatics know

Ahh yes, the 'exempt' crowd, but you can't ask them why they're exempt because that's personal information or some crap excuse...
Plus the sunflower Hidden Disabilities charity lanyard was abused….as some shops dished them out to anyone without question.

The govt should done something to make sure that those who are genuinely exempt from mask wearing weren’t tarnished by the same brush as the ‘exempt’ idiots.

Plus the days when customers asked a lady with a tracheotomy why she wasn’t wearing a mask. That really upset her. A couple were banned due to their constant tirade of words to the lady. They were just nasty people. Heard they did similar things to another genuine exempt customer in another supermarket and banned there too.

Got my second dose of covid this week. Someone came into work with a cold, they tested negative that morning. I had a three hour meeting with them.

I knew something was up, I'm in the meeting thinking, why are you here?

The guy goes home and the next morning informs me he has tested positive. Within 3 days I have it and it's been a horrible ride.

I wouldn't care as much but it's now going to spread round my family. I don't have anywhere in the house to isolate from the whole family and that means when the kids go back to school one or more of my kids are going to have it and not go back after 6 weeks off already.

Why do people insist in coming into work with a cold?

From a workplace perspective, this could potentially impact further on figures increasing. That said, I know of a number of organisations (including the Police) who are so short of 'bums on seats' that their current stance is unless you have symptoms that could hinder you from performing your role - even if you are testing positive, they require you to come into work. So its hardly surprising that the virus is still running riot in the workplace.

Well I am back at work today from home but my wife, my 5 year old and my 8 year old all have temperatures now. Employers cannot be ridged with this three periods of sickness when we are still seeing COVID all over the place.

My company is very flexible so I'm lucky but I would be moving on very quickly if they went down the route of disciplinary action over stuff like this in the current climate, surely 90% of companies cannot be like this anymore.

Im not an antivaxxer by any means.

Im all for it for people that actually need it.

And if you are overweight, don’t look after yourself, have asthma or other conditions then sure you go ahead and take it.

For people who live a healthy lifestyle, dont smoke or are otherwise in good condition then statistics seem to show the chances of getting seriously Ill from it are small enough that it should be a choice to take it or not and not be throwned upon by highly intelligent superior beings.

Also if they come out with a "one and done" injection then i would be willing to take it, depending on studies on long term effects.

I dont see why it should be treated as any different from other illnesses - any normal / healthy person is unlikely to need more than 3 periods of sickness in any 12 months even with covid.

If you have specific health issues then they should be disclosed to your HR dept for due consideration.

Covid isn't special any more and generous sickness policies will always be open to abuse.

You can have unlucky years with your illness, not just Covid.

My work don’t count surgeries or procedures such as colonoscopies as I had them as sedated.

Unsure about broken limbs, unless it was done at work

Heading to France tomorrow with the family. Been paranoid for weeks about getting infected prior to travel.

Thought I'd dodged it, got a text about an hour ago to say a woman in the office is positive... so very, very angry.

TBH I question a lot of people's intelligence when it comes to the vaccines :s not just antivaxxers. The amount of flack I've got on these forums and elsewhere for suggesting things, which were pretty evident to anyone who was paying attention, which have since become acknowledged fact ( for instance on transmission https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj.o298 ) but at the time were off the official message, was incredible.

I do get that there is a careful line with regard to not discouraging vaccine uptake but still.

(For instance compare my quoted comment here to the accepted reality now and the reply I got to it LOL)

Yep, that mentality is rife these days and is not limited to vaccines by any stretch (wider politics has been more or less destroyed by it IMO). Far too many people stuck in their echo chambers and completely unwilling to consider views that don't align with their beliefs.
