COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Sorry, lets not go down that path, its been beaten to death in previous posts about covid and people dying. As if they wasn't going to die anyway. Very, very, very small percentage died of covid who were fully healthy.

All the people I know had covid, some more than once. Deaths......zero!

Yeah, no. Personal experience does not equate to everyone/statistics.

No magical fairy is going to swoop down to the earth and case covid away. No person can either. This is the reality now, no point blaming the government for "What if's" They was too busy having parties to give two hoots about covid and measure they put in place. To so called, protect others.

Of course we can and do blame the government because its their fault or did they not remove all restrictions, remove all testing, state its endemic (its not) and say "we have to live with it" which basically equates to ignoring it and pretending it no longer exists. Well, it does and infection rates are the highest they've ever been with 1 in 13 people infected currently. Its entirely this govts fault because Boris is entirely dependent on support from JRM and the CRG to shore up his collapsing support both within the country and within the party, Rees Mogg has even been appointed to the cabinet just so he/they can keep on eye on their puppet and make sure he does what they say! And we all have to live with the consequences such as pressue on NHS waiting lists which are at record levels. My mother is in constant hip pain after a fall probably needs a replacement she's had an x-ray and been told a consultation will likely take 5 months to happen, thats just a wait to talk to someone about it never mind receiving a date for an op.

I can understand reasons people maybe like yourself wanting to isolate forever with zero human contact but how is that socially and economically feasible?

Doesn't really look like you understand much at all TBH.

I'm in a rock band. I work for a music promotion agency. I'm the last person that would advocate "zero human contact" or hope for any kind of social lockdown. It kills my livelihood. It kills what I like to do.

I want social contact to be made more safe. That's all.

I'm currently into my second bout of Covid, last was two years ago. For me, Delta and Omnicron/whichever one I have now have had very similar symptoms, just hoping the duration is less.
Because it sucks.

Don't worry the virus will stop "normal" life soon enough, even for the people ignoring it and going about things as if it doesn't exist.

In fact the more and more people going about life as if it doesn't exist will simply accelerate the process.

The country is already creaking under the sheer numbers being infected every week. On top of this is a variant circulating that doesn't seem to offer much protection from re-infection. This means numbers are going to keep going up and up to the point society won't be physically be able to function with so many off sick at any one time - hospitals will be on skeleton staff and unable to provide anything but basic care, emergency services won't have enough staff in to get to accidents, life threatening conditions, fires etc. Shops, pubs, bars etc won't be able to open due to lack of staff so there will be no where to go. We'll end up with a lockdown type scenario without the need of the government implementing one anyway as everywhere will be shut down.

This is a good example of why this thread should be closed - pushing this sort of hysteria is not healthy.

You have this odd agenda of always wanting the covid forums or posts to be closed.

Its asinine let people discuss as they wish it’s a forum. If your don’t like it go read another thread.

Its actually pathetic.

It's not hysteria though. We've had nearly 5 million people in one week infected.

Staff shortages are starting to hit already, everywhere from Hospitals/Doctors to local shops, everywhere is understaffed, services disrupted in every sector of the economy and no way of bringing down hospital operation waiting lists.

All this will only get worse with waning immunity, to which boosters are seeming to have less and less of an effect, especially on reducing transmission. The more we go back to "normal" the worse the problem gets.

It’s normally the Boris fanatics who want it buried just like Boris wants covid to be swept under the carpet

Give us the date when your lockdown by stealth will start? A specific date that we can reconvene on.

There’s discussing and then there is pearl clutching hysteria which it’s pretty clear to see affects some people quite negatively.

There is no set date.

It will depend on many variables, some of which are -

How quickly and how many of the population decide to go back to living how they lived before the pandemic - We've already seen the amount infected jump from below 90,000 infections a day to 700,000 in just a few short weeks.

It will depend on how quickly protection wains from the 3rd and 4th boosters and/or previous infection - Evidence so far is suggesting it isn't lasting as long as hoped, especially with Omicron.

It will depend on how good the newer generation vaccines fare - Again limited findings so far show vaccines targeted towards newer variants such as Omicron don't seem to offer very good protection.

It will depend on how quickly new variants appear and their characteristics - We've just heard about a recombinant variant in the last few days. With millions of infections per week, it's creating a vast petri dish of opportunity for the virus to mutate, they could be less severe or they could go the opposite way and become more deadly, there is no set path with what a variant will do.

So now you are dialling back on your ‘soon enough’ prediction because you have been called out on it. Pathetic.

Omicron 2 is already believed to have peaked and XE was expected with different strains spreading. You’re not getting another lockdown.
