correct. in comparison to the 9400f which goes for £90-120 used, the 8700 (non-k) for ~£150-170 is outstanding value

You already have DDR4 RAM so you don't need to buy new RAM.
That board has pretty much below garbage level VRM designed for the lowest TDP CPUs..

so am I right In thinking I power off pc, take out the old CPU and drop this one In the boot It up or do I have to swop It out then do a bios update ?

One last thing do i need a cooler or use the one that comes with the old one ?
you "could" use the stock intel cooler that you have, but i wouldn't recommend it. better to get a semi decent cooler.

When you change your cpu make sure you run your pc for 10 mins before to warm the old thermal paste so its easier to remove the cooler.
The cooler above i thibk comes with tgermal paste but it nay be worth getting sone smore just in case.

Got all the bits today so put It all In, took me ages to fit the new cooler as not much room, pc started It recognised the new CPU and went to bois screen where I went with defaults and all seems well.
