****CRACKING deal on 4GB 8500 Kits from Kingston @ £39.99 Inc****

Clairvoyant you might have the same issue that I had, in that my NB was getting too hot and so after a pass or two it would fail memtest. Soon as I put some decent cooling on the NB all my problems went away. See post 177 in this thread

I think some people are forgetting that there are many other issues other than the memory itself, that will determine how far the RAM wil OC. Different chipsets, BIOSes and drivers will all have an affect.

The RAM in question is ALL from one production of chips - We've sold well over 500 sets with no RMAs at all.

If your RAM won't overclock as well as the next man's, it will almost certainly be due to one of the above reasons or lack of ninja overclocking skill :D ;)

I have no clue why it would not pass memtest after putting in the 2nd set.

But I ran memtest on each pair in each set of slots.

1 set failed in 1 pair of slots, passed in the other. the next set of ram passed in both slots. Put both sets in and MEMtest passed. Well strange, I have MCH @ 1.48 so far and it passes still. I will be trying another drop ASAP.

But all running fine at the momment.

Sorry to ask what is probably a dumb question, but having just installed one of these 8500 kits, CPU-Z / SPD tab is showing max bandwidth as PC2-6400 (400MHz). Should I be concerned?

IP35 Pro XE & E5200 by the way, so the speed isn't an issue, I just wondered if I've got the right stuff :)

Cheers.

Thats normal. Because SPD settings have to within JEDEC standards (ie at 1.8V which is what the motherboard will supply as standard) it will only go upto PC6400 speeds. The rated PC8500 speed is at 2.2V.

I just noticed the same thing and made a new thread but good to know that its fine.:)

Got my 4 x 2GB sets running 5 5 5 18 @ 2.2V (+2%) ram multiplier 1.2

IP35Pro Q6600 8x416

it weird as I can't get the FSB much higher without a crash nor can I go to a ram multiplier of 1.25

MCH voltage is 1.29V - any ideas if I should be running this at higher voltage and what voltage for the MCH should I be using for 8Gb ram (stock Mb cooling on the MCH

Bit of a noob question here, but here goes:

If you get 4 x 2Gb to make 8Gb of RAM will it run in Dual Channel. If not, would having 4Gb (2x2Gb) in Dual Channel be faster than 8Gb (4x2Gb) not in dual channel?

Also, will this price stay this low for the coming weeks?

8GB of RAM will run in dual channel.

RAM prices can be volatile but I wouldn't expect it to go up by much if at all (Don't quote me on that:p)

4x2GB would still be dual channel ... each channel has 2 DIMMs on it.

However, there is a strong caveat, I think, that memory controllers often won't run at there top interface speed when there are more than 1 DIMM on each channel. Can't remember the exact details.

I've just ordered a set along with the P5Q-E as my current Ballistix and P5K-E don't mix causing cold boot issues but now it doesn't even post or beep anymore. now I'm just hoping that the p5k and p5q layout are the same so I don't have to redo my watercooling setup (I should as I've not changed the water in over just over 2 years) and also migrate my Raid 0 with vista without any problem.
