Release Date: 09/25/2012

Firmware for the Crucial m4 2.5” SSD is being updated from version 000F to 010G.

The m4 is updatable to this new firmware starting from any previous version in a single step.

This is an OPTIONAL update for any drive in the field. It is only recommended if the end user is experiencing an issue related to the following items.
Do NOT use any other m4 firmware update for your 2.5” SSD such as the 01MG firmware for the mSATA form factor.

Version 010G includes the following changes:

Improved Trim response time
Improved power-on-to-ready time (known as POR, or TTR for Time-to-ready)
Improved resume-time from low power modes, and improved reliability of warm reboot
Improved power consumption by disabling HIPM (Host Initiated Power Management)

Additional details can be found in the firmware guide

Updated mine okay, though had to revert my AHCI drivers since it wasn't detecting my drives on the RST 11.6 drivers

I only checked also after I flashed and having downloaded it from the OP's post I did no see the warning about not using it with a UEFI bios.!

I can't downgrade to the 000F release as when I boot from the iso it just hangs with the "Searching for devices" message.

Seems strange that they would release a firmware update that is not compatible with a good number of motherboards. Why not hold off and release it when its finished and compatible with everything?

There are quite a few posts out there (eg Intel SSD forums) about RST 11.6 bugs.

Not sure if it's limited to SF-2281 drives (probably not), so it might be worth rolling back to RST 10.8 before blaming the Crucial update. Of course, both could be borked.

HOw to tell which firmware is present on my ssd m4 pls? ta

Right click MY COMPUTER, choose MANAGE
Click DEVICE MANAGER, right click on the drive in question (in this case M4-CT256M4SSD2).
Click on DETAILS tab, click property dropdown and choose HARDWARE IDS.
In the value field should be readouts like so:

M4-CT256M4SSD2_______________010G____

The code after the string of underscores is the firmware version.

Did you fix this?, normally heading into the BIOS and setting your SATA controller to IDE sorts this issue.
Don't forget to change it back to AHCI or RAID before you try and boot back into windows otherwise it'll bluescreen on boot.
