Cruicial M4 0009 Firmware Update

Would it be a waste running one of these on a SATA2 port?.
You will see higher numbers in the synthetic benchmarks but i have tested Crucial 64GB and 128GB M4's @ Sata2 and Sata3 speeds, and, day to day windows tasks, internet browsing, etc etc, and some heavy gaming i couldn't really tell any difference between sata 3GB/s and Sata 6GB/s, but then that's my experience only.

Will this interfere with my ISRT?

If I set it to IDE mode for the upgrade and then back to RAID before a windows boot? Would that be OK?

it wont interfere with your array.
you will need to take the drives out of raid and flash them individually.
once the FW is updated then put them back in RAID and boot.
its fairly easy.

It shouldn't be a problem, but I've read reports that you can flash in AHCI mode now.

it says not to.
for the 5 seconds it takes to set SATA mode to AHCI, it really isnt worth it.

Read speeds have went up for me,before and after shots:

correct

I am unsure what this stigma surrounding updating an SSD firmware is all about

updating the firmware is easy

DL the FW and burn the iso to disc

then ensure your sata mode is IDE in the bios [it should be set to AHCI so you will need to change this]

boot from your cd rom

wait for the utility to tell you that your m4 is detected and needs to be updated

type 'yes' by pressing the Y, E and S keys in that order

then press enter

walk to the oven to check if your pizza is done

then come back and see your drive has finished updating.

restart with CTRL+ALT+DEL

enter bios and change SATA mode back to AHCI

then sit back in your chair and say, "woah, that was pretty easy. I dont know what I was making all that fuss about. It took less than 5 minutes of my time and now my drive is 1/5th faster than it was before."

then sit there with a smug grin on your face knowing that your SSD update was really easy and the people who bought an agility 3 are having massive problems.
unlike yourself.

what then if u have, like ive seen lots of pcs have. only have ahci or raid?

SATA2 M4 here

I'm probably the small minority on SATA2 so I'll add my results here.

As you can see, even though SATA2 there has been some increase in numbers all round :D

I'm still on my trusty IP35 Pro, I have a raid0 setup and can confirm I had no problems getting back to AHCI & the raid from IDE mode - for the firmware upgrade.

But with the speeds you guys are reporting on SATA3, Ivy Bridge can't come quick enough!

I pre-ordered one of these M4's off OcUK last night after hearing so many good reviews on them, and even though I have not recieved mine yet I am very impressed with the look of how much performance increase their is with this new firmware.

I am really looking forward to recieving mine and I will do the firmware update straight away - I'm just hoping that 2nd September is the correct ETA of when OcUK will get these in!

done mine last night no issues windows seems to boot slighty faster sure i'll notice a bigger change when i get my sandbridge system up and running :)

bit of a review here
pretty useful website actually

If it’s worth the trouble is highly questionable.
If you lose a few hours of work time, then it just does not.
If you run the risk of losing further things; configs and/or data; it definitely does not.

After all, it’s a nearly unnoticeable increase in overall performance.

Not sure if this guy is serious or not?

Can't wait to do this update, i'm currently only on sata 2 but I will be upgrading to AM3+ shortly to take advantage of the sata 3 speeds, and with this update this drive will perform much better than the agility 3 wile also proving much more reliable, great drive I would urge anyone looking for a ssd to buy it :)

Definitely recommend you give this a go if you have an M4, it's easy to upgrade and the results are great!

Cool! I'm going to install it when I get home. The 0002 firmware was a lifesaver for fixing my link power management OS hang issues. I hope this one's just as worth it.

I'm always a sucker for a firmware update, even ones that I don't really need. I just love watching those ....... appear on the screen. It's like playing Russian Roulette. Only more serious. :D

Shame my current mobo is a 'stone age' Sata 2 jobby. I miss Sata 3. :(
