CRYSIS vs. The Modern GPU (Part 1)

Probably struggle to get 7 fps or so on some of the levels. :p

So hes lieng then:P Thought he was, i think my card is as fast, or faster than his and i get 8fps on high

Dont know how he can get 34 all high  8800GT will struggle to get that i thought :D

Not even sure which thread I was making this for but here is Crysis making good use of a quad core.

Edit, and there are busier maps/sections than when I took this.

Does not look like good use of quad core to me.

Spec as sig, DX10 Vista 64, Very High (except shadows, which is on High) 1280x1024 and I get 24 min, 36 avg and 42 max on the time demo.

My mate who runs the same gfx card but with a 939 x2 4400+ at stock with 1.7gb DDR400 @ 3,4,4,8 2T in xp32 all high (except shadows at low) at 1024x768 and 2xAA runs at 28 min, 37 avg and 46 max. (and he has to switch to single core due to that stupid timing prob - everything we've done to fix it, include hotfixes and amd's dual core driver lock the pc up, on every copy of windows we tried)

For some reason DX10 seems more laggy than DX9 ingame even though the time demo gives similar FPS and when I enabled AA on my rig at 2x and 4x it made no difference to performance until the screen blurred, and it seemed to loose around 10fps (well to me anyway)

I should mention that the Crysis beta drivers in Vista64 causes media player classic to crash straight after playing the game, but is fine before.

I plan to retake my other GTS after he finishes hellgate london and crysis and see if the SLI will help much!

Hmm, I have an E6600 @ 3.4Ghz, 8800GTX ACS3 KO and 4GB of RAM and I get 41FPS average on the DX10 GPU benchmark at 1280x1024 with all settings on High. I can't see how to get such a high frame rate with everything on Very High, sans Shadows, and with an 8800GTS.

I'm pretty sure that, when I set Shaders to Very High, the frame rate on my rig really deteriorates; at least that's what happened with I tried it last.

Ive been playing crysis with a custom very high cfg tweaked to have shadows on medium & post process on medium. Ive had Fraps on throughout the game and the first half of the game I would guess my FPS was around 30fps average, it was playable for the style ive been playing it but definatly not smooth. It dipped down to low 20's in spurts and also rose to high 30's in parts.

The last couple of levels I have done (snow etc) have been a different story, i recall seeing a low of 9FPS a couple of times, shame the timebench wasnt as demanding to give a realistic expectation of what you will get. Im going to have to lower my setting i think from now on as I want to finish it now. If I had had a realistic timebench I wouldn't have bought the game yet.

Its got load on all four cores, and not having one single core pegged at 100% with the others bumping along at ~5% or so.

So yeah, looks good to me.

O_o a single thread will create load on all four cores, only if processor affinity is set would it stick to a single core.

with regards to whoever said 30FPS in crysis isn't smooth, i find gameplay doesn't change over 30FPS, in most other games 30 isn't too great but for some reason in crysis it still feels smooth, even smoother with motion blur

What would a 7900GTOC get on crysis at high on 1440x900?

Got someone on MSN telling me he gets a solid 34FPS.

Well considering a 7900GTO performs similar to my X1900XT he would be getting 30fps tops with everything on high.

I have to run the game on a mixture of high / medium even at 1440x900 to get it playable.

Spec as per sig.

At all medium I get 26/45/70 and at all high I get 9/25/34

Is that about right for my rig?

EDIT: 1680 x 1050 oops forgot to put that!
