CS:GO Discussion

Probably the best place to ask this if I want my head kicked in :p but here goes...

I've never played a Counter-Strike game before, is it worth getting into? I'm not huge on shooters but can enjoy them if they are good. Being on the Source engine, does it handle similar to Left 4 Dead?

Cheers. :D

Edit: Key is gone to Digit. Happy Fraggin dude :)

Thank you again man. I'm well happy ;)

Had a blast last night for a couple of hour's. Damn it feels strange but looks and plays very nice. Just don't like the "Skating on ice walking effect", gun's feel way under powered and the sounds need to be worked on. Apart from that i'm loving it. But that's why it's Beta and i'll be sure putting my input/feedback to the guy's at Valve/HPE.

And if by chance i do happen to stumble on another Beta key it's been promised to Sickojay. And of course i'll be on the lookout for what you've been after m4rk84 ;)

Is there a key going for this or any place to get them?.
I have been playing competitive fps since quake come out many moons ago
and i hate not being involved in some team action as there is nothing
worth playing to that level at the moment. I have not played much cs
before as i was always a cod fan but i feel this is the last hope for some time.

Yes, handles some-what like L4D, its very smooth gameplay wise, really fun game to play with friends. A hard game to get good at though, its all down to skill, no aim assist to help you like most modern shooters nowadays. I'd say wait untill the Global Offensive open beta comes out and have a go on that. I'll be playing it!

I've put 40-50 hours into CS:GO since I got my BETA key. I was a big 1.6 & Source player and I have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying GO. It plays much the same which is what I want/expect from a CS game & the graphics update is a welcome change.

Maybe its just me enjoying a new title.

Great to hear, people seem to be reporting a lot of problems, such as sounds.. weapon damage. But thats why its a beta. I'm just glad to see someone just enjoying it without any complaints. :)

I just re-downloaded it to try out the latest patch, it feels better and I'm considering a purchase, the only complaints I have are that armor needs to be nerfed.
Full clip into someone who is crouched down facing me and I take him down to 25% and he kills me first, I was using desert eagle which doesn't feel as powerful as the one in CSS, normally it took like 4 shots minimum to kill someone?
And
The running animations, all the rest look awesome but they still run like they crapped themselves :D

I won't stand for people bad mouthing the FAMAS.

Back in the day it was a killing machine if you played medium to long range support. On burst fire it was click-to-kill, providing you had a good aim.

I'd pick it over the Gail anyday. In fact, I would compare using the Gail to slapping an enemy with a wet sock.

Yea it was amazing but in cs:go they nurfed the **** out of it.

I'm another one who despises iron sights.

The concept that looking through iron sights = better aim doesn't make sense in gaming terms.

In real life, looking through iron sights would improve aim because you have a bead on your target, but it doesn't make sense in games because we aim with the crosshair.

To have a bead on your target with the crosshair, then having to go to iron sight view to more likely get the kill is just bad thinking development wise.

If I've locked down my target with the ever present crosshair, then having to use iron sight view is just a illogical step.

Iron sights in games = not logical, should not improve aim more than using the ever present crosshair.

Pc exclusives should definetely not use this system designed for better handling using inprecise console controls.

It sounds to me like you're blaming iron sights for dumbing down games, when in actual fact they are just being used a lot more often in games that are already dumbed down anyway. Iron sights as a complement to crosshairs is silly, i agree. But they makes sense as a replacement in any game seeking to be more realistic. i would take a properly designed iron sight mechanic over crosshairs any day, and would argue that being able to master properly implemented sway , ballistics and recoil would take more skill than the random cone fire offered by some games.

None is this applies to CS of course. Its not striving to be realistic, so iron sights wouldn't really work, but please don't assume that because games like CoD use the mechanic that its a dumb concept.
