Culinary Disasters

I can't really remember any I have done recently (other than a sligtly flat chocolate moose, still yummy however), however I did once use the same weight of cocoa powder instead of chocolate chips... However that was beaten by my sisters who made mustard bread, but thought 4tsp was 4 tablespoons, needless to say not much of that was eaten...

However last night was an interesting one from my sister, she made a Beef wellington, but not the normal beef wellington, and she made it with stewing steak. To top it all off, as I couldn't eat the pastry she fried mine. One bite of my rare stewing steak and 5 minutes later I decided no more...

I once made roast guinea fowl... Forgot that the crown cooks faster than the legs so had perfect breast and then had to fry off the legs (which were raw). The oven also broke during that session.

Putting way to much water in the rice cooker by mistake creates congee. Egg-fried congee looks so bad (especially with added soy sauce). Not done that again lol.

Sorry but I did lol at the 1.5 sticks of butter. Better luck next time mate: it's all a learning process.

Would have if the sink wasn't freshly bleached.

That's a scenario where I would have been more comfortable eating it out of the sink. Definitely better than pulling it out of a yucky dishwater soaked sink. The bleach left after you rinse isn't going to hurt you at all.

I made some rice with cinamon and turmeric to go with a curry last year, managed to get distracted and left it to boil dry and burn on the bottom. The top bit looked OK so I served it up with a dhal curry. It smelt and tasted like damp fire damaged furniture :o

That was the thing, it was a bathroom sink and they had just covered it in bleach after having loads of gerbil poop in there so the only rinsing was the water from the pasta.

...

god ****ing damn it!!!!.......
:D

I think my worst disaster was at uni when I left a pan of rice on and then went back to CS and alcohol. I go into the kitchen about 3hrs later to the French guys in my halls saying, "your food is burning". They were in there the whole time and didn't turn it off, or tell me. Three hours it was on. Completely trashed the saucepan. It took all my will not to brand the frogs with the pan. I couldn't believe that.

I tried raisin biscuits, but after searching the spice rack, dumped tai 7 spice seasoning in, recipie called for "mixed spice", which I later found was there. They actually turned out all right.

I was making a suet pudding for my parents' wedding anniversary (I was about 12 at the time) and was doing it in the microwave.
Covered it in Tin Foil.... oops :P

The actual suet pudding tasted ok, but the edges of the pastry would break your teeth!

My cooking has somewhat improved since then though! :p

made the 5 minute chocolate cake in a big mug i have, put it in the microwave turned away. few seconds later i hear crackling, assume its just the food. i check it 30 seconds later to see sparks of lightning coming from the handle, turns out the cup had metallic handle. bricks were ****.

when I was 4 I decided to make breakfast in bed for my mum...only not knowing how the toaster worked, I buttered the bread, put it in the toaster cranked it up to 11 and wondered why the smoke alarm was going off >.>

codec - yummmy that looks really good - well done :) please can i have the recipe :D

that reminds me...someone i know made marshmallow "cheesecake" once  it was so good (obviously doesn't contain cheese!!) I think i might have to google for the recipe.

i tried making lemon chicken once which involves coating the chicken breasts in flour etc and then deep fat frying them.
while the chicken was frying i was meant to prepare the lemon "sauce". I checked the chicken half way through and it tasted just like kfc (but better!) however as i was still preparing the lemon stuff i decided to pop it back into the oil thinking i'd only be a couple of minutes longer.

i took much longer than expected and the chicken was fried so much i couldn't bite into it or cut it with a knife :( Doh!

Was grilling a steak once, just put the chips under - smelt awesome. Went back to the computer while I was waiting.

Remembered about it two hours later after a good 2142 session - went into the kitchen to find a black mess under the grill - was so disappointed :(

Try doing it with half the butter. And bear in mind that "sticks" of butter are an American measurement - a stick is a quarter pound of butter. Don't go using 1.5 British blocks of butter :p

This - I've never really trusted the USA measurement system... Always stick to UK recipies...

My disaster? - Cooking a Toad in the Hole once (James Martin recipe). The recipe called for a lot of oil and a lot of eggs in the dish. I forgot to put a catch pan under the dish, it overflowed, and the oil caught on fire in the oven!.... Had to open all the windows and doors in the house to clear the smoke!
