cyanogenMod 7.1 is out

Im currently running Darkys 10.1........is CM7.1 any better than Darkys? If so, whats the easiest and cleanest way of getting my device from that over to CM7.1?

Darky's looks like it's using TouchWiz so is a stock based ROM. CM7 is just Android, it has nothing at all (ignoring stuff like drivers :p) that's vender specific like TouchWiz launcher or any of Samsungs other apps like the stock contacts/messaging/hubs etc.

If you wanted to go to CM7 you would have to perform a full wipe, and you wouldn't be able to restore any system data using an app like Titanium Backup as CM7 handles it differently.

To get it on you'd just flash a CWM .zip, after wiping everything, :).

In other words ;)

CM7 is AOSP, it's forked from Google and then heavily modified, whereas the Darky ROM is based on the Samsung ROMs but heavily slipstreamed and optimised :)

Ok guys, just rooted and installed CM7.1 last night. It looks nice but I am having some issues.

1) The camera doesn't work. Well it does but I can't take pictures, it will just crash. *FIXED*

2) I can't view the gallery. I can see the folders but the images or videos do not load up. *FIXED*

3) How do I sync my contacts from my gmail account? When I try and sync and I go to 'add account', I put in my email add and password, but it then asks me for domain, server and password? *FIXED*

I had the same problem, for your google things, you need to install the Gapps.zip files which installs all the Google apps (gmail, market etc).

Thank you Sir will try that tonight. :) Hopefully that's one issue resolved. Did you have any of the other problems I mentioned?

To fix the camera, move the photos/videos you took whilst using the samsung rom to another location, or delete them.

Nope, the only problem i had was with no market/google apps. I couldnt see it anywhere on the CM7 website but with a little searching I found the reason, installed the Gapps via clockwork recovery (vol+/power/home button) and select to install .zip from sd card and it works perfectly so far.

Legend! Done it and its worked. Got access to marketplace again and all my contacts are back. Thanks again! :)

1 - Yes for prolonged periods of high intensity use, but it never gets too hot.
2 - The opposite actually during normal use. For mobile CPU's with low power states, the quicker you can do the "work" and get back to the minimum power state, the better.
3 - It will either work or not generally.

I also undervolt my phone for ridiculous battery life gains!

I get random reboots at 1.4ghz. Just my luck though, goes back to receiving an ARGA stepping over an AXIA when my 1ghz AMD Thunderbird arrived:p

I've stuck mine at 1.4ghz for now just to see if I notice any stability issues but no random reboots so far! Next up as soon as I have sorted the camera is getting the PS3 pad hooked up. :D

The CM7 install instructions tell you to get it through the ROM manager which is automatically installed. Takes 2 mins and no messing around with digging around the net to find the right files, rebooting into recovery and all that crap.

Had this on my Optimus 2X for the last few days and have to say its awesome.

Will not be looking at another ROM unless its a CM7 update.

Done what the instructions said, and the gapps were not installed, found the gapps seperate in a zip file and installed no problem. Took me around 10 minutes so not that bad.
