*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

But then why would CDPR say its smaller than Witcher 3 in mapsize, I mean 10 times larger than Witcher 3 isnt even close to being smaller than
Do you remember when they said the game was coming out in Septemeber? And then November? I wouldn't trust what they say lol

225 seems very large. Then again, some of the driving scenes out in the open lands seem quite sparse... Easy enough to make a wide open plain full of shrubs and not have a massive map file size.

GTA V started its life on the ps3/x360

How is the 360/PS3 release relevant to CP 2077? Or the updated PC release in 2015? You want to tell us a game is 7.5 yrs old from an outdated console gen yet compare file size to the latest PC release today. CP 2077 is bound to be much larger than a PC release from 5 years ago, when it was initially 55 gb. Hell the day one patch is rumoured to be almost as big.

Why the rant? It's a 7 year old game that got a bit of a touch up for PC 2 years later. Someone else brought it up as a reference for filesize which is pointless as it's a 7 year old game.

So if they released the game with knowledge of it being buggy you would trust them because they stuck to the release date. You make zero sense.

GTA on PC isn't 7 years old. It's 5, and is only so big today due to the huge amount of content they have added to it over the last 5 years, on release it was approx. 55 gb

Yeah GTA is now 89

The map size has not changed since the 2013 release,
However, as you say, the online content has defo increased it. (even further on the 15th) But GTA is a bad comparison as there are not that many interiors and TBF I never bought it up.

Also, there does not seem to be any difference in file size across the 5 6 platforms.

I just thought 70GB was a tad small for such an expansive open world such as it is. Given the amount of stuff we are able to do, the different locations, the 4K textures and huge amount of dialogue I was expecting an RDR2 sized install.

Edit: Spelling and forgot Stadia.... as you do.

Honestly I have no issue with the delays. Did they lie? Not at all. Its a rough time for devs too. Developing for old gen PS4/XOne then PS5/SeriesX then PC and Stadia too. All during a global pandemic with work from home restrictions in place. The game needed the extra polishing and CD Projekt Red are respected for it. Hopefully it does not disappoint and delivers a new standard for open world games.

Well in an article for gamerant, just 5 days ago, this was said.

"The Night City map is estimated to be about 4 kilometers across by 6 kilometers in height, or 24 square kilometers overall"

So how the guy who made the video got 225km2 compared to the 24km2 in that article is beyond me. Of course it doesnt help that he doesnt actually explain in his video how he arrived at 225km2, he just shows some locations, talks about X and Y and then concludes 225km2, doesnt actually show how he reached that number.

By the way, its not just one dev, its 2 devs and 1 CDPR producer, in 3 seperate interviews who have said the Cyberpunk map is smaller than Witcher3 :)

As I say, 225km2 is wishful thinking by people wanting it to be enormous, and of course it doesnt need to be enormous because it has a lot of verticality and we dont want a huge map of empty areas

4k is pretty small, that is pretty much an hour's walk at normal pace, but I guess in the future cities are even more vertically based than they are now.

EDIT: Ok 6km vertically is insane, that is 7 times the height of the Burj Khalifa

My suspicion is that when it says 6km in height, its meaning the Y axis rather than the Z axis. In the way that some people refer to the x axis as width and y axis as height

We'll find out in just a few days, a few of the "leaks" which have cropped up in recent days say that the map is small in terms of X and Y as well, it will be interesting to see if the guy in the video makes a follow up video next week, if the map does prove to be smaller than Witcher3, where he says well my calculations were way out ! :)
