When you say backup saves do you mean you manually backed up saves and just restored them upon reinstall? The game uses cloud saves, you can just install as normal, start the game and all your saves are there so no need to manually do anything.

Quite a lot changed with the game in that time! I suspect at one point a big patch updated how saves work and converted to the latest method which would be incremental, since your save is rather old, this isn't playing ball so much!

So much has changed that it's basically better to just start a new story anyway and do it with another class this time round. Maybe spec a bigger sausage than before or something to jazz things up a bit

The 2.0 patch is due soon as the expansion is out September, this patch will overhaul many of the systems in the game. You could try using the save file editor and see if that will rescue it for you.

Yeah. I am replaying it now. Some great missions, great music and the story is good in places. The combat can be as varied as you make it. The first time round, I just got gorilla arms and smashed everyone; now I am playing as a hacker.
I would say so, I even enjoyed it in release.
But wait and play it after the expansion is out as it will get a nice update as I understand.

I'm doing the same thing.
Got this on a deal recently, enjoyed the storylines although the world feels less real than GTAV by a long way.
Solid game though, loads about 100000x faster than GTAV too and the gunplay is pretty sweet
Will get the DLC when it comes out, runs surprisingly well on my 1080ti so hope the DLC doesn't kill this performance.

This runs really well and been having some fun with this since the 4090 was added to my system, I may wait for said update though before pushing ahead full throttle with a whole new play through.
