*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

Nope RTOD looks better, what you are seeing is the difference between accurate shadow casting and diffused light bounce vs innaccurate shadow casting and no diffused light bounce. You are thinking the non RTOD looks better because the shadows are more defined/sharper - This is the optical illusion because that is not accurate lighting or shadowing. there are shadows in the non RT screenshots of both scenes that are screen space approximations that otherwise should not be there based on where the primary light sources are, especially visible in the alleyway scene.

Alex in his DF videos mentions this all the time in games that use RT lighting and shadows, for example.

It's a perception of actual accuracy vs the illusion of accuracy.

In terms of visual quality I would say that they all appear equally as good. There are only subtle differences in light/shadow that I could not say that one *looks* better than the other. However I do agree that the lighing when actually playing the game with PT is really good even if it's hard to capture that in a still image!

Oh for sure, that's the thing, a screenshot only tells half the story, because the lighting is changing in realtime from anything that emits light, and that affects everything in front of that light or where that light might land in the scene. You really have to see it in motion to truly appreciate.

Now I could post 2000 pixel wide gifs, but they would be about 200MB each :p

I cannot wait to steal me one of those! Do they stay in your carpark when left there like your own cars?
Sadly not (but if you make a save it's usually there when reloading).
The annoying thing is sometimes the police will just wander in and sit in it, then it vanishes but the police stay there hovering in mid air
Also, and just for the lols sometimes when you missile a vehicle, your truck gets catapulted away at a million miles an hour
It's pretty easy to get if you use unlimited health and stealth mods via WeMod, but you need to hop in and drive away quick as the police use some sort of EMP weapon that disables it.
I'd be amazed if you could steal one without using a health mod as the police at max wanted level are absolutely brutal!

"I can try to explain what went wrong," he says elsewhere in the documentary. "I don't think one person has a complete, comprehensive view of everything that went wrong. One thing was that we just had too little time."

So fare the performance of the game seems to be a better in 2.0 than previous patch. I can actually turn off FSR and not get motionsick due to excessive panel blur(because the framerate is higher than before). I'm even playing on Linux now with SMT off(Because starfield performance was better with SMT off) and everything seems super smooth. Only problem, and its sadly a big one in my book, is now I got the controller bug that many other have, on windows as well. So the game has replaced the entire UI with controller hints/shortcuts even though I don't have one connected. Can't make it go away.

Don't just read! Watch teh documentary linked there too

This game absolutely trounces starfield, people think ai is bad in this, well starfield on another level  Amount of times, npcs completely bug out and take forever to actually do anything is annoying now.

Thing I love most about playing this now is how there is little to no loading scenes. Starfield might as well be called loading screen sim, even with a nvme, it is frustrating and breaks immersion.

Don't get me wrong, starfield great game but cp is just simply better.
Could depend per mission, what's suppressed in their behavior, what they're pushed to do, all without proper "safety" behavior to fall back on. I haven't got a lot of issues like that to notice, in fact SF AI is quite good: I opened fire on them and went for cover, some moved from cover to cover while getting close, shooting towards my position if I was in cover instead of just knowing exactly where I am, navigating obstacles using the jetpacks, used grenades, etc.

Where they fail, like CB does and pretty much all other games, is to have a believable interaction during the fights and some proper actions after. Getting around to "all clear" while their buddies lay dead all around is not really... suspension of disbelief resistant type (so to speak).

My biggest problem with CB is that they haven't got around to add a bloody flashlight to the game! How hard is that?!

Random observations:

Currently Lv 12 (Street Cred 28) and the only vehicles I can purchase are two crappy vans. WTF!!!!!!! I don't have enough street cred to buy any type of car including the tiny little red thing

At least 2 iconic guns are now obtained differently than 1.63 (Lizzie and Jessie's pistol, the latter is according to a vid I watched. Haven't done the Heist yet)

They are throwing money at me, currently got 150000 and nothing to spend it on. I'm limited only by crafting mats - I've disassembled almost everything that's come into my possession.

Driving is better using mouse and keyboard, plus it sets you up for vehicle combat.

Games is stupidly easy even on VH. The AI cant cope with being hacked from a distance. Though they sometimes come for you if you have hacked a camera and you position has been revealed.

Still not fired this up. But from what I can see DLSS 3. 5 still has bugs and on top only works with path tracing. Right now I am leaning towards just jumping in and doing the dlc rather than a fresh start.

I can then start a new game in 18 months time when I get a 5070 or something. By then mrk will have beta tested it to hell and all bugs will be ironed out I would imagine :p

Waiting for the flashlight mod to be patched for 2.0

And one to remove the eye adaption + vignietting as those are still hard lock and not optional.

You can still play just using the regular rasterization. Looks good too.

But I have a Nvidia card!

RT Ultra works fine anyway. Just path tracing that is very demanding where you ideally want at least a 4080.

I fully intend to play the dlc and look forward to it too. Just not sure if I fancy starting the game from scratch right now. Will see when I launch it if it grabs me.
