*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

Had a quick go to check out the metro, it's cool but I think one of the mods I have is messing as when metroing to megabuilding H7, just before arrival the game CTDs, makes sense since no mods have been updated yet for 2.1.

Annoying having to wait!

Does look cool though, just a shame you can't physically walk on and off the train, there's a quick load transition when you enter/exit the cab, and whilst on it travelling, you have 3 viewing options, look around sat down, look out the window, and look around standing by the door. Not been on all the lines yet but the trailer showed interactions with NPCs on the metro so I'm guessing on some lines randomly there will be some interactions or something.

Would have been good if you could walk up and down the train carriage like in Half Life at the start. Maybe a mod will unlock that ability though as there's zero reason why you can't do just that since the entire carriage is rendered and you can move the camera view around etc.

I expect a mod will be out in coming days.

Yeah probs. Based on absolutely no first hand experience my initial thought is was this just a minimum effort solution to tick the box for having delivered a missing feature (if it was indeed promised on launch, forgot)
Then again, maybe it was a compromise as most things in life are!

It's not a minimum effort, if that was the case it would simply be fast travel (example: Starfield LOL), they've actually gone out of the way to implement full metro cart, line system, preset views (which as mentioned I'm certain will be unlocked in a mod very soon) and incorporated the lines and terminals on the ma too.

I think what transpired is that CDPR know how big the modding scene for this is, and they're also releasing the full scripting mod support etc for it . They put in the baseline work to get a fully working metro system with a bunch of preset views whilst travelling inc NPCs etc. The rest is down to modders to add on to. All that's needed is a detachment mod to detach you from those 3 preset views so you can move around in the carriage whilst it's moving between terminals.

The previous metro mods allowed you to walk through the terminals so I suspect someone will incorporate that into the 2.1 update which both unlocks the ability to move in the carriage, and then exit the carriage manually once at the destination terminal (as per previous metro mods).

Forgive me because I am purely talking objectively here, but I'm pretty sure there was a lot of rhetoric about Bethesda relying on modders which wasn't ok. And yet here we are saying oh it's fine when CDPR do it.
Anyway, probably doesn't warrant too much of an analysis because let's face it. It's not a big part of the game!
That would be like getting nitpicky about dialogue options when you use a taxi in GTA.

I'm guessing there is no actual physics for the metro system and the train simply follows a scripted path with everything else attached to that, hence the static positions. If you try to hitch a ride on objects in the game the physics tend to get a bit unpredictable.

There is a difference though, Bethesda didn't even do the bare minimum, modders had to fundamentally change as much as able to hence why there are so many pre-reqs to be able to use a number of mods and do other things. Like there actually is a fully working public transport system in 2.1, the previous mods didn't have that, so the previous mods can now bolster the built in system to expand it further, although it's not completely necessary. The fact that it's officially implemented is the important differentiation here, and anything else is just nice to have via a mod or whatever.

Yeah understood, important distinction. Tell you what I was really hoping and that was that you could actually use that casino place when you went to it and have a way to travel there then. I guess it doesn't make much sense to be able to get there before you actually do in the story maybe especially as I'm sure it was for the super rich types or corpos.
