Cycling Holidays

Thanks for the info! Looks good. And the prices are reasonable. How long did you go for? And how much did it cost all in if you don't mind me asking?

Cool, I'll probably see you around then. I'll be staying in the pollensa park hotel.

staying in someones uncles house! No idea where abouts in pollensa. Routes - day 1: lighthouse and day 2: calobra and day 3: just decide how everyone is on the day but you should try to get up Puig Major which is the highest point.

Where are you flying from?
If your going to be buying online you can send it to me and I'll take it in my hold luggage if you want?

Going from Prestwick (5 mins from my house!) and there is a number of us going out at the same time so should be fine - thanks for the offer.

Pollensa park hotel is fantastic, only problem i had was a bit of noise from people leaving early one night.

Would advise to go all inclusive because you will get through a lot of food out there.

Also, a super important vital thing to not forget is some decent tea bags. Ones in the hotel are crap:D

Just outside the hotel is a bike shop so you can get anything you've forgotten quite easily.

A nice ride that not many people seem to mention is the one out from Pollenca to the military base in Alcuida i done that one day and really enjoyed the twisting road along the coast, there's also a pretty steep 15% + bit on there that goes up to a nature reserve if you fancy it.

Id say leave Formentor to the last day. Do the big ones at the start of the trip and then have a leisurely-ish, shorter ride to finish it all off :)

Got a link to that? Could be good for the last morning!

Did that one from Port Alcudia last year on the rest day: https://www.strava.com/activities/331280646

Really nice road and some lovely picture opportunities.

Taken from main cycling thread and added for information purposes!

a superb 3 days. Totally recommend it to anyone to go. Amazing roads, great weather, good hire bikes, well maintained etc.

Cyclist heaven - tons of bikes and loads of riders. Cars and traffic are generally very good and lenient on the roads.

Loads of pictures and video footage to follow.

Day 1 - https://www.strava.com/activities/529199430

Superb late afternoon ride - lovely run, great views at the light house and really decent day to start with.

All the boys together - me on the left in the white top

Day 2 - https://www.strava.com/activities/529848509

Brutal! - Sa Calobra is a monster - no doubt about it. Great day out but man it was hard work at the end of the day on the way home. Fantastic views everywhere you look. Amazing stuff.

Picture at the bottom of Sa Calobra eating some pasta before going back up! Nicest lunch spot ever??

Set a new fastest speed record 54.8mph on one of the descents. Also top 8 out of 22,000 people on one section!:D:D

Day 3 - https://www.strava.com/activities/530670560

Great run - a few of the strong riders went to Puig Major but we didn't think we had it in us, so 4 of us went a shorter ride for the last day.

Overall, fabulous time 132 miles, 12300ft of climbing and 5000 calories.

Can't wait to return.

Any questions - fire away

Myself and Maxeh are taking our trusted steeds to Schliersee Germany in June and flying with EasyJet.

For both of us it's the first time we'll be taking bikes abroad with an airline. They have a generous 32KG weight limit but do state 'no other items' in the bike bag/box but I've seen suggestions that they are never checked and such a generous weight limit would suggest against their rule.
  • Has anybody recently flown with EasyJet and encountered problems padding & protecting your bike & box with bits of kit?
  • Logic would dictate packing CO2 canisters isn't the brightest idea... I'm sure we'll find a LBS and source some out there.

If it's not advisable to take a track pump then we'll make sure we have a decent mini between us.

No experience with EasyJet. But I've flown with both Monarch and Thompson on multiple occasions and on I have included tools, foam roller, track pump, helmet and shoes in with the bike. No questions asked.

My mate did try to take some co2 with him and got caught out.

I would guess that rule is to stop people packing all of their clothes into their bike box and avoiding paying for normal hold luggage.
If you do have normal hold luggage, I dont think they'll care about the bike box - but they will check it by xray.

Thanks guys, we've got 1 hold bag between us and will leave a little room in it in case they decide to be pedantic...:p
