Cyptolambo 2 is dead.... kindai goes car shawping

Will do.

Another curve ball is that when you look at 720s then you are in the realms of both 458 and 488s.

Budget creep is real

Ferrari if 458 but I found both the 488 and F8 rather dull to drive, McLaren do the whole turbo thing better but the Ferraris do feel better put together but both can throw big bills and McLaren extended warranty is better than Ferrari’s.

Since I have my alerts set up there has been 1 SVR added to the market and 40+ R8's.
I suspect one of those is going to make money soon due to increase in popularity and not being made anymore. ;)
F-Type SVR at under 50k takes some beating, great cars!
Do I save for a house or spend on an F-type? :D

I do imagine repairs and maintenance on an F-type will be considerably cheaper than a Mclaren or Ferrari.

An SVR is a safe place I believe they have bottomed as the regulars updated R’s are
Similar money at which point SVR every time for the big wing and the other cool bits. 45-50k for a coupe and 50-60k for a Spider and I can’t see one losing you too much.

After some further thoughts and remembering how amazing Gibbos F-Type SVR is, spotted this amazing example online.

b8e010c15a764555964e55d187bc014c.jpg

Right colors, right options, right spec.

Ding ding ding. And then a couple of days before I was off to see it, Gibbo was at Auto100 and said the car looked clean.

Rang up, and booked a drive as well as a holding deposit, I genuinely expected to go test drive it and do a deal.

However, after running some checks, the last 2 years service history is missing. Rang up Jag and they have no record of official servicing, which is weird as they are cheap even for main dealer.

Did some more followups with the dealer and they likewise cant find the last 2 years history. Ok, not a problem, proposed that they have a catch up service done, have the car inspected by Jag and then warranty the car. Seems reasonable no? Well, according to the dealer, no, they wouldnt agree to that.

So, asked for my deposit back which they did the same day and moved on.

Absolute shame.
Auto100 are very sketchy IME, they present some lovely looking cars, but everything I've been to see has patchy service histories.. I went to look at a Jag v6 F-Type the other month and that had a missing service, and they claimed they'd just had it serviced at a main dealer, only to find that was just an oil/filter change and not a scheduled service! They got arsey over an AMV8 when I wanted an inspection done since clutches are a consumable and oil leaks in the wrong place are expensive!

At least you can grab the VIN/Reg from their website and check before going..
I see what you mean, nothing since 2021 / 1479 miles for the last two years.. (and was a pre-reg and sat for 12 months doing only 50 miles before sale)
However, I guess they don't technically say it has 'full' service history..

Unlike the SVR Coupe that's just gone up, advertised as a 2022 with 12K Miles with 'full main dealer service history' but the service history shows it was just over 2 months late on its first service which is outside of JLRs 1 month late service requirement.. so not quite 'full' then..

A lot of these 'performance car specialists' are the same, they all misrepresent things and you just have to see each car and do the checks, occasionally they get fully legit ones in.

Room for plenty of shopping?

I've looked at a car or two there before, it was an... interesting experience. They were generally fine but the whole setup is a bit strange, an old factory full of random supercars and Range Rovers.

Their photography is excellent, virtually every single car on the pictures looks immaculate, yet in reality that isn't the case (nor would you expect it to be, in fairness).

I dislike their policy that you can only visit to collect the car - you can't view it (although they did agree to this in the end for me). They claim this is to reduce overheads, but that is complete BS, they know the majority of people will turn up to collect their car, all excited, and despite finding a few small issues, will end up taking it away regardless. Same for any slightly odd service work, a lot of people will just go ahead anyway...

I initially turned up at their 'prep centre' by mistake which is a slightly rough looking old garage with a couple of mechanics fiddling about with the cars. They seemed a bit worried I'd seen it! :p

Oakdene Collection around the corner is owned by them too, similar setup, selling slightly older/higher mileage cars. They all look pristine in the pictures, of course.

I view what in pictures looked an absolutely stunning aero kit 991 Carrera S in racing yellow, was a perfect spec for me with the sunroof, PDK, PSE, Sports Chrono, PDCC and said I’d like to come and view it which they agreed to but declined a test drive because they’d not inspected it and would not be insured which o knew was rubbish considering you can buy and collect.

Anyway I viewed it and it was stunning upon a light visual inspection but after looking closer I discovered a few things:
- 2011/12 car but was only ever serviced by an OPC once
- all remaining service history was random garages never heard of and some who seem to not exist online
- the Aerokit was not factory fit option as the electronic spoiler button was still present
- refused to allow a Porsche inspection
- Test drive only possible if I buy online and pay a deposit which they claim they’d refund but strongly pushed me to just buy it as their own checks are the best, lol.

I’m shocked people buy cars like this but they must be doing well as they had millions of stock value but I walked away feeling the car must have had a very dodgy past maybe even an accident and hence none factory fitted aero kit and lack of OPC servicing from a very early age which on a 100k car is weird they stopped official servicing.

If it had a full OPC history and had been allowed an inspection and passed with nothing too alarming I’d had purchased the car as it was gorgeous and anyone not familiar with Porsche would just buy it but knowing these cars and the big bills they can throw and lack of history and potential past incidents was enough for me to walk off.

I got the impression they are buying cars traded in at dealers which dealers for whatever reason themselves won’t sell on their own forecourts which says a lot……

I’ve also since learned a guy purchased a 720S from them and within a few weeks and hardly any miles the gearbox failed requiring replacement. They are point blank refusing to offer a solution even though it’s within 30 days purchase and accused him of been a car rental company and this any warranty implied or given is void. He is now having to take them to court and basically said they are absolutely con artist, so glad I walked because if you have an issue it seems your on your own.

I thought that too, I know they also buy cars via Motorway.

More than a few issues you found with that 991. Just one OPC service - makes you wonder who's owned it! I wonder what the Porsche inspection would have uncovered...

I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable buying anything particularly expensive from them.

When I was in the warehouse/showroom, the car was in the dark; they wouldn't put the main lights on as it "costs too much" - then spent 10 minutes saying "we do very well, look how many millions of pounds worth of stock we have" :p

It very much feels like they are there to shift cars in volume, rather than worrying about their provenance.

Accordingly, after some discussions with @Gibbo on the drive up to drop the lambo off, it seems sensible to "drop down" a couple of levels, so can have that enjoyment again of buying bigger and better.

Yeap, I call them "Palette Cleanser" cars, something less mental than your previous car which then gives you a bigger sensation once you move back-up to mental cars. I do it slightly differently, I usually stick with that Qashqai you got or a Mondeo etc for a few years before jumping back into 500-600hp+ cars as the move back and forth between "mental @ 700hp+" to "slightly less mental @ 500hp+" is far less noticeable than going from a 130hp Mondeo to 700hp mental car. Obviously the biggest downside is spending a few years in a Mondeo :D

Does it count if you have two cars. X5 Hybrid/M5 Comp. The X5 spends 99% of its life on electric. And I still make a funny noise when gunning the M5 if I've not driven it hard for a week.

It's painful how expensive cars in Spain are, even the most worn looking automatic original r8s with 150k kilometres in silver are 60k+ :(

Generally the case for large parts of Europe compared to the UK, watched a HPA video looking at used cars in Spain awhile back - some ridiculous prices for stuff which in the UK would be 1 fault away from the scrap yard.

I know they're quick, but I'd imagine they feel like a bus after the cars he's driven.

Now if going to run and hide from the fallout :p

Most of continental Europe, sadly :(
Reading the threads here makes me sad. But then I remind myself of UK politics, etc. and then it doesn't seem like the worst trade off in the world :p

R8’s are bargains but buying well is a must there was a gent with one of the early S Tronic (DSG) V10’s and even at £40,000 he could not sell it and in the end had to let trade have it for like 37k. Was only on like 40k miles too but in fairness it was grey and general spec but it just shows a gen2 will be down at 50k with miles added and in a year two certainly trade value anyway.

Remember I paid 36k for mine which for a super rare example with wing back buckets, manual and exclusive spec with only 29k miles just shows how hard they get hit.

I’ve seen people not able to get 25k for an R Tronic high mileage car, values are been hammered and there is thousands of them, totally a buyers market whereas a 570 is far less in numbers and I feel they have bottomed or are very close.

A shameless photo of mine I love it and they are ace but don’t drop 80k on one as it will hand you your ass in a year or two…..
Nice mk3 Supra there. I miss mine, wish I didn't sell it.
