Dalglish resigned/sacked?

Liverpool don't really need to rush into finding a new manager since most of the first XI will be at the Euros.

Ajax head coach Frank de Boer turns down approach from Liverpool.

Link.

That story says that Jürgen Klopp and Drank de Boer are out of contention.

it seems it depends where you read the story, other ones have said de boer made it clear he wouldnt be interested in the job if they DID approach him, no mention of him actually being approached.

I've got no problem with the way FSG are conducting their business at the moment but once this PR exercise is out of the way I'd rather we went back to keeping things in house.

Flip side of that argument is any manager would probably want to use the Euros to identify new targets so the sooner he's in place the better. Edit: That's assuming they don't go one step further and tap in to the female market by employing a woman

Pretty much all the time a player is bought based on their tournament performance, they turn out to be dire.

Just get Benitez back, he did alright until the previous owners turned up.

I was told about an awesome quote on the radio. I didn't hear it first hand, but as a liverpool fan I can believe it.

<Interviewer> What do you think about all this?
<Fan> Kenny is a legend, but you should never go back to your past
<Interviewer> Who should you get in?
<Fan> Benitez.

Just. wow.

Personally, I didn't mind Benitez, but I think he went at the right time, however, we didn't do all that well getting Hodgson, I'm gutted England have him now.

Neither is RDm yet he has just won the champions league after being sacked by West Brom. West Brom recovered after they sacked him. Birmingham then turned him down.

Clearly managing a smaller club with no budget and more average players has little bearing on whether you can succeed at a club that will speed 100m per year :D

I think the fact that he was a great player at Chelsea *possibly* helped here. Just possibly.

I just think at Liverpool because we hold onto our history so much regarding previous wins etc, it will just be impossible for anyone who needs loads of time to adjust to the 'big game'. Martinez is great for the last 10 games of the season. We need a manager who can motivate us to win the games we should win week in week out against smaller teams like Swansea/Norwich/Wolves/Bolton/Wigan/etc etc, and not be like the liverpool of old struggling so much against them.

it's still a great way for managers to watch players they wouldn't usually be able to during the season.

I think in the 20th Century this was definitely the case, but in modern times the big clubs have much wider scouting networks and if you have to wait until a major tournament to identify targets, you may well be too late. This is why you sometimes see teams striking early in the transfer market (i.e. long before the window actually opens in July) to secure players before the secret gets out, such as Hernandez prior to the World Cup.

Secret was he cost under £7m and had a significant contribution to the title win, he hasn't got many chances this season with the return of Wellbeck from loan but even if he doesn't do much else in his career at OT he was still good value and IMO would fetch more than that if sold now. Likewise after scoring 3(?) at the WC his value may have been inflated somewhat so they did well to seal the deal early (compared to say Rio bought after WC2002 and Rooney after Euro2004 both costing £25m+)

seems to be martinez is the only likely suspect at the moment, unless there using him as a smoke screen to get someone else ?

Martinez and AVB are clear candidates. Rumours of Capella this morning but it doesn't fit with the owners criteria.

Personally i'd like AVB. Fantastic coach and a pleasant chap. Got a very bad gig at Chelsea and was hung out to dry. He has the ability to attract good players will hopefully move us forward.

i'd prefer avb of the 2, but for me it depends on whether he's learnt from what happened at chelsea, not sure if it was with prompting from RA, but he tried to make to many changes to quickly.

yes the old guard got stroppy, not sure how gerrard would take to being benched like lampard was etc, but if AVB has learnt from the experience and is given time then he could do well.

Spirt of shankley making a meal of it. Some liverpool fans need to be told that they don't own the club and they don't have a say in its running.

Haven't they just voiced concerns about the direction the club's going? Sacking high level members of staff without replacements lined up being a major concern. Who's giving them advice at the moment?

Edit: Would also be interesting to know if Ayre's comments about Dalglish being given the goal of Champions League football or be sacked is true. if it is true are FSG going to be interviewing candidates and telling them you must finish 4th next season or we'll sack you because this squad won't be getting 4th without serious investment.

Edit: Now Cappello's being linked with the job. Would love someone like him in charge but at 80 years old he's not really the young, up and coming manager FSG want :o

I was gobsmacked when i found out kenny had been sacked but at this stage time to move on . To me i would only be interviewing Capello , AVB or Benitez . If you choose Capello i would go after some one like Martinez as his second in charge so he could be adjusted into the job in 3 or 4 years time .
