Dalglish resigned/sacked?

I'm not sure I believe anything Whelan says. He mentioned something about an offer being made and then when directly asked if Martinez has been offered the job he began backtracking and started saying that "he thinks" an offer has been made and they'll have further talks on Tuesday.

With my lack of faith in what Whelan says, reading between the lines, I'd guess that the owners put forward their ideas on how he'd work within their set-up if he got the job.

Wondering who Wigan will get in now, Martinez just got the team playing well with a great style of play and someone is going to come in and change it!

Liverpool have offered the job (the capacity of which is unknown) to Martinez effectively, Dave Whelan's confirmed on Sky Sports News. Martinez has relayed his terms and that he wants full control over all managerial aspects. The owners will consider his request, with another meeting scheduled for Tuesday where the decision will presumably be made.

Yep, but will Martinez accept... ;) :p
Hopefully not for two reasons. Firstly I still think there are far better candidates who have won things and wouldn't cost a penny to buy out of a contract and secondly I don't like the idea of splitting up control of the club. The manager should be allowed implement his vision through all levels of the club from the youth team right up to the first team so if Martinez rejects our offer because he wants more control it might make FSG reassess things.

If Martinez does leave Wigan, you know who's perfectly suited to working with Whelan? Redknapp. SSN could give them their own slot.

edit: And possibly not a surprise but a few journo's are saying that despite what Whelan told SSN, Liverpool haven't made Martinez an offer.

So many people claiming to be ITK and just commentating wildly over this appointment. It's making it very hard to track whats actually happening. It must be so frustrating for journalists having a story right in front of them but they have absolutely no source to quote nor do they know how to direct and swing the story.

Perfectly happy with Martinez personally. Good call, provided he's given time. If he's being told "Champions League in a year", he's screwed. If he's given time, it's a top appointment, particularly if we get an experience director of football in.

I'm with you, although I feel like we're in the minority. If the rumours are true of a DoF having a larger role and Martinez/whoever as more of a 'head-coach' then I'm happy. Martinez is a very likeable guy too, I just hope we commit to giving the guy the time he needs to work the players.

Martinez has a style of play and will keep at it, Liverpool fans need to look at what they have really won over the years, my mate has never liked Martinez as a manager, he does has some points but he can get players playing well, he is young and fresh, he is Wigan Legend, player and manager but hey, no man is bigger than a club. Liverpool fans need to understand this.
