Dark days, AMD share price at lowest ever.

Why should we all conspire to ignore AMD's financial situation and pretend their new GPUs are flawless?

Why can't we be critical of their business just as we are of Nvidia's. Why do AMD deserve to be bubble wrapped to protect them?

It's just bizarre that you think a company who's #1 is to make profit deserves some kind of special treatment to help them survive.

As fanboys they don't want people to know about AMD's precarious business position because buyers will probably do the sensible thing and avoid investing hundreds of pounds into one of their products.

I've seen it all before with topics like this where the resident AMD clique just ruin the thread with trash talk like they're doing now, any serious discussion ends as a result of their childish behaviour and then a mod likely closes it.

A mod should just delete the last couple of pages and give out a warning that it's for serious discussion.

I mean they both have done stuff that shouldn't happen, although I feel that people seem to have a negative view of AMD because of their past. They both make excellent products and as consumers, should just buy what is best for them, be it AMD or Nvidia. I personally choose to support AMD because I'm not fond of some of the things Nvidia have been doing recently. That said, it wouldn't put me off buying one of their products if it was worth the money and more compelling than my current 290X's.

Normally i would agree with you on this but most of your posts in this thread are not about the subject, its all about AMD's Pumps, VRAM, Tessellation, overpricing and how they mess everything up.... and now calling people fanboys. Your as bad as the rest of us.

In all kinda of realism, these kind of threads shouldn't exist, they cause nothing but rivalry on a forum that I've always felt has been very neutral. (Unlike my old forum which I left for this exact reason)

To be honest I am not going to let any of it change my opinion

Im gonna get a 390 this week as I like AMD products and think at £259 with free delivery its a stonking card

My opinion & my choice:D

So you don't think that a GPU manufacturing company share price hitting the lowest it has ever been, bear in mind that this is a company that a lot of people like very much, including my self, isn't news and not worthy or a thread.

Did I know that this was going to be a hotly debated topic, yes of course I did, but the first half a dozen pages or so were a great discussion, then suddenly some people after making several previous posts decide they don't like the thread and think it shouldn't exist.
We will all just have to make sure that any news of any type (good or bad)about either AMD or NVidia isn't posted as discussion on these type of things isn't what this forum is for at all.

But sadly it will always devolve to that. Fans of either company will not like the news and anti-fans will relish the news since it validates their own stances.

However,as with anything nobody NEEDS to post in a thread,so I suppose people can self-censor.

I've rarely seen anything that isn't neutral (maybe I just haven't noticed it).

I meant that in the wrong way, of course these kind of the threads exist. I meant that these threads will always turn nasty whether it's wanted or not.

I don't really see why some people think its not ok to have an open discussion on a (relatively) open forum. Both "sides" can get as bad as each other and both companies are certainly as bad as each other, but as long as people stop short of openly insulting each other it should be fine.

It's been quite civil imo. The discussion has just evolved on, only so much you can say about share price.

The most offtopic/disruptive posts have been the ones complaining about it! :p

edit:And the one ones complaining about the complaining! :D

AMD get slaughtered on this forum, usually from the same people who would never buy an AMD GPU no matter how good it was.

This forum has always historically been very pro AMD, the reason its waining is simply because their failures are getting indefensible and even the hardcore fanboys are jumping ship.

As somebody who buys cards based on the card not the brand I don't want to see AMD disappear from the GPU market, I didn't like seeing 3DFX, Matrox, PowerVR, SiS, S4, etc disappear but alas. However when I watch AMD these days it's sort of like watching the AI on a chess game on the easiest setting, just like "idiot", "moron", "why the hell did you do that?", "how could you possibly think that was a good idea?", etc, all the time :(

you'll find thats a running theme on overclockers. It's usually the people doing the finger pointing and calling everbody fanboys who are the most disruptive.

^^This^^

The UK has always been an AMD stronghold tbh, but that's fading fast with the ****-poor software support (since Omega was released) and their hardware slipping (and poor rebranding)

All of those things are contributing to the dire situation AMD currently find themselves in as a business...

Pump QC issues putting people off buying Fury X and costing AMD in terms of RMA's.
Less VRAM than their competitor due to HBM issues makes Fury far less attractive.
Far lower tessellation performance than their competitor meaning AMD are resorting to driver cheats.
Putting premium prices on previously value products.
Rebadging their line-up with Fury the only actual new GPU (didn't even bother updating old products to their latest GCN1.2 architecture).

All of the above adds up to a company that is in serious trouble both now and going forward, assuming they can survive long enough AMD really can't afford for Zen not to be a big success.
