US: Dark Matter - may contain spoilers

I was just reading that Syfy put huge amounts of money into The Expanse which starts in December. This show and the other new one that started last night got the dregs of the budget.

Didn't think much of the first ep at all, but I'll stick with it for a few more. It just feels rather generic, like what you'd end up with if you asked someone who doesn't watch sci-fi to write a sci-fi show.

Looks to me like they've made the mistake of writing a SF show for kids, but instead marketed it as if it's for grown-ups. I tell you, if you've got no money for sets, actors, special effects, etc you can still make up for all that with good writing and characters. If you can't even tell a good story, it doesn't matter how much money is poured into it.

yea
They attack the soldiers that land on the planet, one of the soldiers tells the ship, the guy who seems in charge of the ship knows this and travels over in a shuttle with 2 guards anyway.

Then magically the episode is resolved by an outside force that was never mentioned at all.
How conveniently lazy the writing was might work in the "comic" the show is based on, but in a TV series just seemed like almost any filler episode of stargate

Maybe the one where they end up trapped in a museum :P

What you mean the
other 'mining company' mentioned in the first and second episodes
.... that was mentioned

Honestly I didn't think it was 'that' bad, yeah it's no big budget series but it's no worse than killjoys (I quite enjoyed that too strangely). Having seen the first episode I wasn't expecting 'big budget' effects or anything, not everything needs them. If anything after the second episode I'd put it at the same level as starhunter or even lexx (which I liked)... they're watchable but never going to rival babylon 5 or stargate, but then tv companies aren't prepared to 'sign up for multiple seasons' anymore so new series don't have massive arcs like the good old days :(

This looks more like a Stargate Universe than a Stargate! Still watching it, it's up to episode 3 in the states.

Watched the first episode, slow as hell... But W T F!

They are apparently trying to remember who the hell they are, yet they very quickly know how to do everything in the first episode and one of the main ship fliers takes off, gets some more friends brings them back and saves the day in just one episode! She knew who to contact, what to say, how many she needs to bring back, oh and this wasn't even part of the episode, they just appear as allies.

does nobody actually watch a series when they watch it lol

selective memory loss is possible, there's a term for it but I can't remember it... could be amnesia but sure it has another term to that. In essence you can still do everything you were taught but can't remember how/when etc.

The other people were the other 'mining' consortium they mentioned and the android/ship clearly has navigational locations for space stations and planets etc to find them

Episode 3 was fairly boring as a whole although it does start to fill out some of the direction the story is likely to take, if nothing else the end is 'important' lol.

Yeh but for some reason I got slightly ermmm I don't know, lost? It was as if I didn't care about the characters nor did the story grip me or pull me in. Yet I just watched Killjoys and completely understood everything that was going on and can't wait for the next episode.

I thought Stargate and Atlantis was awesome, but Universe was as dull as a cloudy drizzly day, bit like this so far.

Both dark matter and killjoys seem to have come out of no where and started at the same time and look and feel similar, not complaining mine we need more scifi shows back on tv.

They both have strong good looking eye candy in both shows, if it was not for that would have given up.

Killjoys has better humour and so far feels bit more solid and polished, but yeah dark matters female data makes things interesting.

both on the same channel as well, I think it would have been better to just do one and use the budget of both.

rerun some old eps of scifi from the 90s if they need a time slot filling :P

no point in low budget scifi it doesn't really have the funds needed to be proper scifi especially when it involves space
