Dark Souls 2 - Thread

Hope I manage to get through DS before this comes at least twice, currently stuck in anal rodeo with those two bosses.

Accidentally attacked praise the sun dude and had to kill him ><
What level are you at? I might have a character I can use to help you if Moot can't.

Edit: Is now a good time to mention I've one hit killed both of them in the same fight? :D

Haha nice

I'm level 45 I believe, got that gold hemmed armour and some ****** +5 axe and +3 shield that regens your endurance faster from forest

I got there, spent about 7 hours trying to solo them with a completely under powered character.

Then Windows corrupted the file. Need to get back into playing at some point...

Away until Sunday night but yeah that'd be cool

Also can't kill the large headless thing in that tiny room, takes so little damage and I just **** my rhythm up against it ><

No problem, I should be free whenever Sunday. Send me a trust message near the time with your GFWL username and I'll add you. Luckily I have a level 50 character lying around :p.

Closed beta on the PS3 starts on October the 5th. Registration starts September 5th. No word on a PC beta though:(

I am gonna do whatever I can to get in to that beta!

I'm going to try and avoid it like the plague, the Souls games are best played from a position of complete ignorance, rather than knowing half the content before the game comes out.

....I just want more!

You always end up replaying the same bits over and over anyway tbh, so I would have thought a beta for this would be better in that regards than most games really, it isn't like they will be giving away any important story info.

I have never been in a console beta though. In fact, I have only had a PS3 for a few weeks

Console betas are a farce, most are just underhanded marketing campaigns.

I'm hoping that in this case it won't be and they are doing it due to introducing more complex mechanics etc and feel they actually need one.

What I don't want is for this to be them trying to make the game "more accessible" to your average flipper handed 12 year old console gamer.

I agree totally, but a bit more accessibility in certain areas would not be a bad thing!...I shouldn't have to go to a wiki to find out what Covenants are for example. I also was not a fan of 'lore through item descriptions' at all...a new way to implement the lore is a must for me as well(where were all of these item descriptions written btw, on the back of the weapons/items?:p)

On the first point I agree, refinement is certain areas would be good.

Lore however no, no no no no no, one of the best parts of the Souls series so far is the feeling is mystery and isolation in the world you are exploring. The lore that there is is more than enough, the game does not need stupid NPCs spouting exposition at every step. Everything you need to know in Dark Souls is there for you to find if you care to look.

I don't need NPCs spouting exposition at every turn, but if you are going to create a world rich with lore(as Demon's and Dark Souls have been), it is a shame to waste it by having it delivered, in part, through totally ridiculous methods like the item descriptions we got in the previous games, which takes something away for me. Take a cool character like Artorias, most of what we know about him comes from the descriptions of his weapons/items etc. It is poorly executed imo.

I thought Demon's Souls was much better in terms of this than Dark Souls tbh....for a series that has many new and innovative features, such as the implementation of MP, maybe they could come up with something a bit different.

Which is just user error.

Not really though, is it? I try to take a step forward and swing my sword and he just shoves. I shouldn't have to make sure I'm moving forward enough not to shove when I try to attack, especially when that split second can be the difference between me killing them and them killing me in a single hit. I shouldn't be penalised for trying to be quick which is what is happening.

I've never experienced accidental kicks but perhaps it was just luck. You have to flick the stick forward and attack to kick, not just move forward and that's a pretty big distinction. I guess they could rebind it, better yet allow players to customize the inputs for every kind of move as well as the keys.

It very rarely happens to me and luckily has never happened in PvP, I just recognise a terrible control map choice when I see one. Two buttons everyone is going to be pressing constantly allow for a completely different action when used slightly differently, which locks you into an animation and leaves you defenceless? No thanks.
