Dark Souls 3

I personally would roll a Knight but keep your load bear under 70% for rolling, from what i have played so far the enemies are a lot quicker and rolling is almost essential

That way you have your 100% shield for the 'oh ****' moments and you can roll and attack like other characters....

Look the best way to tell is to start the game and fight that lizard in the tutorial area and the first boss, when I went caster that first boss killed me loads, when I went knight I tore through him like he was butter

Herald would be a good choice too, 100% shield and you'll be able to dabble in miracles straight away. Starting class doesn't really matter unless you cannot beat the first boss. The first armour set upgrade I found was for the Cleric class.

I wouldn't mess with the lizard for a while, pointless drop to have at the start of the game, but brilliant to have when you get further. The lizard is harder than the boss, can be much tougher, and not good for your confidence if you're new to the game or haven't played for a while.

Can you dual wield as anyone? I was leaning towards mercenary?

Sure you can, there's some cool dual wield weapons. Need good reflexes, but if you are confident it will be a laugh.

Any class can dual wield, but assassin sounds like the best option, but I'm no expert in this area, you can buy another dagger off the first merchant after the first boss.

EDIT: I picked up a dual wield set for a brigand some time ago... along with the armor

Ive gone with a knight for my first playthrough. Like Bloodbourne,I expect to play this through more than once anywhoo so Ill play mercenary on my 2nd go round.

Started the game and the saw the big monster you can face before the knight which is near the starting point but didnt go near it. Is this too much for a new character and you go back to it later or is it beatable from the get go?

You can lure it over the cliff on the path to the bonfire.

Good tip thanks.

I'd forgotten how heartbreaking it is when you lose those souls though :(

Beaten the knight and then got done in by a random, non-one hit kill enemy just after it up a narrow path. Going to head back and try and kill said lizard now but I love this game already and Ive only just started playing it. Gameplay is so satisfying

Finished the game, took just under 24 hours. Started as knight and used sword + shield through 95% of the game.

There were a few easy 1/2 attempt bosses but 2-3 gave me a little bit of trouble. I'm not a 'veteran' souls player and found this one much easier than Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne.

I can't wait to get stuck into new game+ :D

Really liking the Undead Legion armour.

I think the catacombs is the first area that hasn't blown me away. Smouldering lake though....

The only thing that is disappointment so far is the boss fights. None have been that brilliant tbh. Good, but not great like i expect form these games.

just got the legion armour too..

looks sooo nice..

i started cathedral boss with 40k souls lol now im to tired to beat her so going bed and gonna kill her tomorrow got her to 70% on first attempt!

Do you guys spend many souls on gear or are they all pumped into leveling up? I assume you can find decent gear from drops and such?

I spend 85% of my souls leveling up. I've got almost 30 dex now and a few other stats have been bumped up. I'm going to start focusing on stagger and health now as I do get hit a lot. Just not good at avoiding a good slap lol.

I've bought a couple of items, but nothing special. If you explore enough, you'll find all the gear you need. I've not got about 5 armour sets, a tonne of weapons. And I've not even reached the swamp yet.

I'm starting to look like a rotten egg now, so need to get rid of the marks that cause it. But thankfully, I wear armour that covers me entirely. I'm still going strong with my Uchi, but I might switch it up and try a different weapon.

Last nights progress:

So, managed to make my way past that frost knight down below Onion Bro and started on that area. Fairly decent area, mostly just killing and loot collecting. Starting to miss finding areas and unlocked shortcuts like in DS1. But at no point have I felt the game is too linear (even though it is a little). And each area is not too long or too short.

Finally got to the bonfire at the top of the steps (the ninja bum boys on the steps were tough).

I felt it was a wasted area with the zombies, I've no idea what the point of them was? I pretty much just strolled past all of them and got gear. Since killing them is pointless due to just coming back out of the ground. Cleared the area below them as well of loot. Again, it's fairly easy to clear loot in areas because they are fairly linear this time round. Which I'm not complaining about.

I'm not having much trouble with enemies at the moment, I pretty much 2 hit everything with my Uchi.

The next area on the roofs of the cathedral, sweet mother of god do I love my bow. So handy! Those fire hugging bitches, that one surrounded in like 5 mobs killed me twice. Then I realised you can snipe her from the first time you start walking out and she just jumps off, same with her bum boys.

Anyway, made it to the cathedral, again being super anal and finding all the loot. Opened up the shortcut, now I'm starting to progress in the cathedral. Last night, got killed by NPC Kirk trying to show off to my partner... So called it a night there.

I've no idea how far into the game I am. I've been playing it for about 10 hours now?

Is there a way to avoid people and npcs invading all together on this and am I right in thinking the only thing death changes is the appearance of your character? (as opposed to reduced health) etc

Brilliant epic game :D Finished my 1st playthru after 22 hours with the default Knight class. Only negatives I can think of are:

Some major areas are missable you need to follow a guide really a lot of content is hidden away & or requires devious ways to access it. I used this one: http://uk.ign.com/wikis/dark-souls-3

Difficulty in places is excessive you really need to spend hours farming souls then upgrading stats to a high level until your ready to face some of the more extreme bosses. It does not end with a boss fight some areas have loads of mini bosses you have to beat every time you want to even retry the boss fight!

If you are not in ember form then no npc invader or human invader. (i think?)

You have reduced health when not in ember form. You can tell when you are in ember form because of the fire sortof glow from your character.

If you are in the way of the blue then as soon as you are invaded a blue sentinel player character should spawn in to help. He spawned in to help me within 20 seconds :)

If you are in ember form i have tried putting my sign down (for coop) and have never been invaded once i have put my sign down. (cant confirm the success of this 100%)

I do like the world and environments - its classic dark souls. However, those of us who have played a lot of the previous games it feels just a tad familiar. Much of the weapons, spells, miracles are the exact same. Which is disappointing :/

I think online seems to work a lot better (stable and consistent). I was summoned once and it was 3 phantoms plus the host vs a red and a purple (which is another covenant i think). I think purple covenant can interact with both the enemies in the world and the pc. So they can choose whether to kill the host or help the host. That raises another question....why would you ever summon a purple covenant chap? ...knowing they probably will backstab u at the end lol.
