Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Soul level 52. End, Dex and Vit all in low-mid 30s, not upgraded anything else.

Atm I am using the Uchigatana+7, Longbow+5, Lightning Spear+3, and occasionally the Rapier+5.

I used the Crystal Halbred and loved it, but it is nearly broken now:(

Left Anor Londo now, and it appears I have messed up Firelink shrine by using the fire keeper soul. Steam says I have played for 50hours so far.... Time flies!

I think Anor Londo taught me a lot about the combat tbh.. I did have trouble with all of the Knights around there, but now am much better. I have abandoned the Lightning Spear now, as it always seems to miss after a roll for me.

2 questions-
1. I have all of these boss souls on me atm, but no idea what to do with them?...it says in the dexription that you can forge weapons with them, but I can't find how.
2. Weapon upgrades- Would it be a good idea to have one weapon upgraded in each way?...one divine, one magical etc?

Cheers

PS. I went back and killed the Hellkite Dragon just now, and got 10,000 souls....that seemed like loads not so long ago...

All you really need is a couple of weapons that suit your play style. At where you are now I had a +5 lightning gargoyle halberd and a +5 divine halberd for the catacombs.

The smith in Anor Londo can make your souls into weapons but you'll need a +10 weapon of the right type to craft it.

What did you love about the halberd?

The moveset? The reach? The damage?

A normal halberd can be found outside the undead parish on a corpse (near the portcullis), if you enjoy the playstyle you could upgrade that?

Failing that, I would recommend getting that Uchi up to +15 asap, I believe it scales well with DEX, causes bleeding, has a thrust attack, and is fairly fast. :)

Yep, all of them;) I do have a normal one, so might get to work on it. When fighting through Anor Londo against all of the Knights it was perfect. Get just out of range and then thrust forward.

I love the Uchigatana for the fast attacks and thrust at the same time. Easily my favourite weapon, that suits my plays type perfectly. It doesn't suit every situation though, I find, and I would like something with a bit more reach for some enemies. Also, the uchi's power come from multiple hits, whereas I like a halbred/spear for hit+run attacks.

I just killed Sif. Really suited my playstyle tbh, so had no trouble... Then got jumped by 3 big cat things and barely survived!

If I'm honest, I find the Hydra a bit intimidating... I keep seeing it sitting down there, but haven't been to it yet:p... And Darkwater basin was one of the very first areas I explored as well.

Just got through New Londo ruins. Very cool area. Had two goes at 4 kings, but didn't get far. Try again tomorrow.

Not for the first time, I had to Google what exactly I was supposed to be doing down there!... Some kind of journal or something would have been handy. I find myself wandering around areas not knowing exactly what I am meant to be doing.... I got a key off of some NPC in New Londo, and found myself thinking 'is that it?.. Is that why I was here' and I nearly left!

Four Kings dead!

I found it the toughest fight so far.

Ok... The Hydra wasn't that tough then!.. Still died twice falling off of the edge though:rolleyes:.... How are you supposed to know about that first time?

I think pretty much everyone falls off against the Hydra the first time, I know I did. There is another Hydra in Ash Lake as well who is tougher than the one in Darkroot Basin, but I definitely think they're one of the easiest bosses in the game. As long as you have a shield with 100% physical block and good stability you can block his attacks all day long (after you get close enough so he doesn't shoot his water blasts at you anyway).

Just killed Gravelord Nito. I very nearly did him on first attempt, must have been one hit away!... Did him on second attempt though.

Didn't really enjoy Tomb of the Giants tbh

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Tomb of the Giants, but at least it's a pretty short area and you can get through to Nito in about 10-15 minutes when you know where everything is. The main thing I hate down there is the area where the Large Divine Ember is, surrounded by 6 of the giant skeletons.

Cool. I was just exploring around Anor Londo and entered some painting. I wasn't expecting to find a new area!

I don't know how long I have left now, but I my savegame is 62 hours long. The last thing I did in the story was killed Gravelord Nito. I am SL66 now.

Tbh, it has pretty much degenerated in to hacking away with the Uchigatane all the time now...not much tactics going on:p

edit- just left the painted world, thought it was quite good. Didn't die at all, and really stocked up on humanity.

If you've killed Nito and Four Kings, you have 2 more of the boss souls to collect before you can challenge Gwyn. These belong to Seath the Scaleless and the Bed of Chaos.

If you've not been towards Seath yet, then you've not picked up the Amulet which lets you access the DLC. I'd highly recommend getting it and doing the DLC, as there are some fabulous bosses to take on. If you're unsure exactly how to access it, I can post a mini guide here for you.

How is the PC version of the game?

I have had a 360 copy since around the time it came out, but my 360 time is more limited that my PC so thought about getting a PC version so I can actually play more than the few hours I have so far.

The initial look of Dark Souls on the PC is unimpressive, but as soon as you install the DSFix patch (which takes about 30 seconds), it looks incredible, so much better than the Xbox version ever did. You'll need a pad though to play it properly, preferably an Xbox 360 pad if you have one, as the buttons are still labelled for the Xbox.
