Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

God this game is so badly optimized, I had no problems with Skyrim & Crysis but I'm actually playing at 15fps more often than 30 in this, disgusting! GTA 4 was a much better port than this.

Sooo, using this little tool - http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=dsfix

Trying to sort the resolution out, goes to 1920x1080 fine however, as soon as I go to play, the res stays the same but the game shrinks down into 1/4 size box in the top left but the gui is still fine at 1920x1080...

Ideas?

Turn of AA in the menu.

No idea what is wrong, game runs flawless for me, even when recording I stay at 30fps.

It's just typical developer practice of neglecting AMD. Bad enough they are the worst processors, why does everything have to be designed in a way that they work bad on them on top of that? Crazy.

Oh right, it is only AMD CPU's is it? That sucks :( I thought you had a Q6600

Only one I've seen that doesnt run this game terrily is the £300 odd FX-8150, might as well get a high end i5 for that.

What is the current fix everyone is using for resolution etc? Or have the devs fixed it? (Or abandoned post launch)

Look at the second post of the Hints & Tips thread, its there.

I don't think it will ever get patches, res fix is here:

http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=dsfix

Just extract to game folder, open the .ini and set your res. If it is 1920x1080 it is already set. Turn AA of in game and you are good to go.

EDIT: Beat to it :)

Sorted my slowdown issues out, I read somewhere that forcing everything to the max via CCC and not using the applications settings will improve performance. Now I've reset my graphics profile and using application settings it looks the same but now more slowdowns. Love to know how to get rid of these stutters though!

Apart from its good performance, Dark Souls PC suffers from all kinds of issues. There are minimal graphical options, textures have not been overhauled or tweaked, there are X360 icon indications on-screen (even when you’re using keyboard + mouse), the default keyboard layout is awful (instead of ‘Esc,’ players will have to press ‘End’ to bring the game’s menu), mouse icon is not disabled when you’re gaming, camera is moving while you’re browsing the game’s in-game menu, 30fps feel choppy (especially when you’re moving the camera) even for this slow-paced RPG, there is no Steam cloud support and the keyboard + mouse controls are among the worst we’ve ever seen.

Who cares how horribly it runs/plays. Its a terible game to begin with. It is only like by hipsters trying to show off how "skilled" they are for beating a "hard" game. Only reason people die a lot in this game is because the combat is as clunky as a ps1 game and the camera leads to cheap deaths and hits.

Never seen so much rubbish in my life. 30 FPS on Dark Souls is not choppy in any way shape or form, now the same can't be said for other games running at 30 FPS. We were all told this would be a direct port with no extras. We are just going back to square one of the first 2-3 pages of this thread. If his camera is really moving when in the menu then he needs to check his mouse as this would only happen if he moved the mouse. Either that or he has other PC issues, there is no movement in the menus.

Don't like the game then move on, getting really boring the same people sprouting the same BS over and over. For someone who hates the game you sure spend a lot of time in this thread :D

Just lost about 40 humanity and a few hundred thousand souls trying to get the last ember for the blacksmiths from the tomb of giants. I fell off a ledge which I thought I could walk over and was overwhelmed by 3 or 4 giant skeletons. On the way back the second time I was sprinting down the path towards my blood stain and accidently rolled and slipped off to my death.

Just one of those moments where you turn off the game in frustration :)

The game doesn't even feel like 30 fps, I think more games should do this trick :p

My first question would be why were you walking around TotG with that much humanity and souls.

My second question would be why you had that much soft humanity at all.

I've stopped levelling so that I can keep in all the busy co-op zones, and invade in the busy areas. All souls went towards upgrading equipment and stocking up on items. Since I've finished all that I just kept a massive stockpile of souls, plus I've been getting humanity everytime I do co-op or invade, so it's all built up nicely. I was planning on using the humanity for the Darkwraith covenent ranks :(

I'm just running around exploring all the optional areas and getting any items I've missed ready for NG+ when I get around to it.

Sooooo, not had much time to play sadly, wizzed through the first part of the game (up to the bit where you get under the bridge. Got all the chests, hidden goodies and killed that annoying guy guarding a ring (parrying is your friend, unless you rolled a pyro then it's fire!). Very easy so far but I spent ages on the 360 playing this so know where all the nooks and crannies are :D

Anyway, grabbed the Drake Sword so now 1 hitting everything in sight. Good times! http://darksouls.wikidot.com/drake-sword.

Tonight, I am going to get a proper session in. Avoid getting poisoned by those ANNOYING rats and spores in the sewers... Then hopefully finish off the gargoyles tonight.

Forgot how much I love this game!!! Took me a while to get into the swing of combat lol. But backstabbing people or parrying is a little easy on these low level mobs. Oh well, once I get to the dark forest and unlock those big doors. I will just spend a couple of evenings soul running :D

I killed the Helkite last night and it didn't even drop it's Drake Sword. :(

Did you not snipe the tail from under the bridge? Takes about 25 small arrows with a short bow (with 12 dex).

Takes about 5 mins, very easy to do for what I consider one of the best swords in the early game. 1 hit everything!
