Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Ok, yes, if you are really stuck on bell gargoyles, you might want to result to the drake sword, but i highly recommend you don't use it. Yes, you might take the boss down easier, but you won't learn and experience doing so. Most of the people who use the drake sword often have problems with bosses and areas later down the road as it become obsolete and they have no skill with the combat system. tl;dr, drake sword op, don't use it, will feel weak later in even harder areas.

I do have the Drake sword, but I do still have to dodge and all that jazz, if I get hit then I lose a lot of health. I still need to beat the 2nd Black Knight... :(

EDIT: Just had about 4 more goes, and it's just not happening. I can't block anything, when I dodge, they still hit me head on. And then when the second one joins in, I'm in a permanent 'stun' lock as they take turns to hit me.

Frustrating to say the least. I just can't get any time to down flasks either. The Drake sword doesn't seem to do that much damage to them, and I can never get behind them in time to hit the tail before they attack again.

What enemy are you talking about?

Anyone got any tips for the Undead Parish Bell Tower Gargoyles? I've repeatedly managed to get the first one to about a quarter of health left, but I always end up dying thanks to his brother. Currently on 19 Vit, 17 End, 16 Str, 14 Dex. Is it worth turning human to summon Sunbro and the dude with golden armour?

If you're having trouble with them, then definitely turn human and summon Solaire to help you. He's there to help if needed, so don't be afraid to use him.

What role does your SL play in Dark Souls btw?

Mainly it's used to match you up online, either in co-op or PvP. There is a good wiki page with info on how your SL affects who you can play with here - http://darksouls.wikidot.com/online-matchmaking

Don't worry, I found the bell gargoyles to be the hardest boss in the game, as it really tests your skill as a new player.

What shield are you using? Have you tried using resins to increase weapon damage?

Black Shield (dropped from the first Black Knight), and I only have the one Golden Resin, I was saving it in case I needed it later in the game.

EDIT: I turned myself human and summoned Solaire. Couldn't find a summon for the golden dude (Lautrec?), but that was no problem as Solaire just pee'ed all over the two Gargoyles, with some pretty ineffectual hits from me. He absolutely demolished them.

Now I feel like I cheated :( How long does being human last for anyway?

No shame in summoning some help for the gargoyles, they can be tough when you are starting out.

You mentioned your damage output was poor, what is your weapon of choice at the moment?

I would strongly recommend upgrading it to +5 at the blacksmith, this is done by purchasing or otherwise acquiring titanite shards and reinforcing your weapon.

You will see a massive increase in damage. As mentioned by someone else, using resins is a big help too. The gargoyles are susceptible to lightning damage for example, applying the (pine?) resin to your weapon would see them killed in short order.

Wait until you summon Black Iron Tarkus to help with the Iron Golem. You can literally stand in the corner and he'll take out the boss for you single handedly. Witch Beatrice will also do the same to the Moonlight Butterfly.

Until you die, then you become hollow again :)

About as long as it takes for some gimped out griefer to invade you, not very long in other words.

I suppose some people may like being invaded by some pro pvper as you try to get on with your single player experiaence, but it got very old very quickly for me. Much as I loved the game, that part of it I could have happily done without, what with having no interest in PVP whatsoever. I usually just stood still to let them get it over with so I could go back to my game.

I know that feeling. I enjoyed the PvP aspect when I was in the mood for it, but it was incredibly annoying when I wanted to get on with the levels. On my last playthrough I spent pretty much the whole time in hollow form to save myself from having to deal with invaders. I always fight back though, especially if I'm attuned with magic like Dark Bead, as that hits like a truck and can easily one hit kill someone at close range.

Don't worry about it, I still struggle with them ****ing Gargoyles . S&O on NG+? No problem. Those Gargoyles? Die at least once :(.

Downed asylum demon last night.

After 5-6 attempts with a Knight I gave up and rolled a pyromancer. The Knight was just so sluggish and I couldn't avoid the attacks.

Pyro made it easier to keep my distance and use the spell :)

Onto the Capra Demon now! I hope this guy will be easier.... I died just now trying him because I had no clue.

Also, who are S&O?
Capra is a real pain because of the dogs with him. If it wasn't for them, I think he'd be one of the easiest bosses as his attacks are really telegraphed. If you can take the dogs out quickly, while keeping most of your health, it'll make fight much easier.

O&S are Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough, a tag team you'll face much later in the game. They're generally considered to be one of, if not the hardest boss in the game (mainly because they're a tag team you have to take on at the same time). You should ideally be at least SL50+ before you try taking them on, especially for a first play through.

Pyro is easily my favourite class to start with, as it really gives you a lot. The Hand Axe is a decent starting weapon, you're fairly unemcumbered, and the Fireball spell will rip through most early bosses pretty quickly. Even if you plan on going mainly melee I would still suggest to start with the Pyro as there will always be times you'll want a ranged attack.

As a means of upping the tension and the overall feeling of jeopardy the invasion mechanic worked to some extent. The problem for me was regardless of the lore behind the game, you simply knew the reality was that rather than some ongoing noble battle against some opposing covenant or whatever, it was just some griefer who was just out "to spoil someone's day for the lolz", 99.9% of the time.

Agreed. I remember once someone invading me in Sen's Fortress, and he positioned himself by the fog door, just after the bit where you have to avoid the falling boulders. He refused to come to me so I went to him, and when I got there he instantly tried kicking me back into the path of the boulders, a completely cowardly move. He missed, and ended up with a face full of Dark Bead. That settled that argument :D
