Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

The Warrior, Bandit and Pyro are all good starting classes in my opinion. The Bandit starts with the Battle Axe which is a great weapon but it may not be the best for newer players as missing leaves you wide open to attacks.

The Warrior probably has the best starting weapon for newer players as the Longsword has decent damage, decent speed and a great moveset.

The Pyro is probably the easiest starting class as the earlier bosses get absolutely steamrolled by pyromancies. It also starts at SL1 giving you the most flexibility when levelling up.

The starting classes don't matter too much other than the very early game and the equipment they start with though. Find the play style you want to play as and level up the attributes associated with that. For example a strength build will want to level strength, a quick, agile build using light weapons will want Dexterity and magic users Intelligence. Every play style will want Vitality and Endurance though (Don't underestimate the importance of endurance!).

Also, get the Master Key as the starting gift, it's the only one worth getting.

Thanks for the info! I may look at warrior then :) i suppose it all balances out the further u get

Another option I've just tried out is to start as a Cleric, level up to 10 Dexterity, run down to the Valley of Drakes and grab Astora's Straight Sword. It's very easy to get to +3 and it has C/C/-/C scaling which means you can leave Faith at its base stat and essentially become a quality build with access to the Heal miracle and a good early game weapon with the same great moveset of the longsword.

I can't be bothered with the lord souls, I'll come back to that later :p
Instead, I thought I should try out the DLC, which I haven't tried yet, and I want to get some more PVP options, as on this run I am making a PVP build.
First impressions are very good, the design of the wood and surrounding area is beautiful, and the enemy types are really creative and wierd, I'm really enjoying it, but now im going to take on Artorias.

I am so bad at this game I spend the entire time running away from giant knights/moths/wizard things and god knows what else. Really not sure what the aim of this game is meant to be? I explore for a while then come across something I literally have no chance against and have to run away.

I found my first blacksmith but didn't have enough souls to improve any weapons as I spent them on levelling up. I then found that headless thing in the basement I ran away from. Ran through the forest and ended up going through a light that has 3 giant knight things in it, managed to escape that and then went through a light that has the moonlight butterfly? Killed. :/

What level are you at currently? I can try helping if we're a similar level :).

Upgrading your weapon in much more important that levelling up in my opinion.

Because Dark Souls does not hold hands like other games. It is very original in the way it does stuff. But most of us do or did the same as you in the first few goes, you just learn as you go along or you could be sad and follow a guide. My advice is keep playing and keep learning, the game is so rewarding if you do imo.

I understand the not hand holding that is fine I knew what I was getting into before I started but I am just unsure on what/where I am meant to be doing/going. So often it feels like I hit a brick wall down a certain way due to something being so much bigger and more powerful than me.

Even though I have died countless times I still have this urge to carry on playing :/
Moothead2 not sure what level I am at the moment tbh I will check in a bit.

Is the Drake Sword worth upgrading, or would it be too expensive?

And I've yet to do a backstab, is it just the normal attack animation? RB button yeah?

Yeah you need to be in a certain place behind them and just tap RB... Sometimes it can be a pain to get working in quick situations :p

Drake Sword I'm not sure, but i've never heard anyone recommend keeping it for too long, it's just a good starter sword I think.

Finally started this properly last night and went for a warrior following the advice above

Its soo good! Ive played briefly before but didnt have the time for it

I have a few questions, last night it was getting late and the first proper boss killed me (on the bridge) so i turned it off there. When i resume tomorrow will my bloodstain still be there to collect my souls assuming i dont die on the way ofc

Second question, when do you remove the shield and use twohands on the weapon? Are there benefits to this? I assume u strike harder and maybe faster but lose the benefit of the shield?

And third should i get the drake sword? I did when i played before but thats as far as i got in the game

Thanks!

Your bloodstain will still be there, they remain even when you log out.

Use 2-handed when you want to get something down fast, that 1st bridge demon is ideal to use 2-handed on as he's slow and vulnerable after his attacks.

Get the Drake sword but don't use it, try it by all means but if you use it, it'll end up as big crutch IMHO and it soon gets out-classed by other weapons anyway once you can upgrade them :)

Thanks man this is great info :)

I was literally leading him to the tower, climbing the ladder, and drop attacking him from above, then run the other way, wait for him and try and get psst to do the same thing lol so i can just face him head on? He seemed to just charge me and i didnt have time to think lol

Ill try again tnite :)

Also, don't forget, you can still block when using 2-hand, it's just you take more damage than using a shield but it's a lot more mitigation than taking a straight hit, you'll soon get the hang of switching between shield and 2-hand while fighting as a lot of the mobs power attacks leave them wide open to a sneaky 2-handed hit before you switch back to shield if needed.
