Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Just bought it, dunno why tho :D.

Do you need mods to make it work ok? Downloading from steam ATM. I also dont have the xbox controller which is recommended for this..

All you need mod wise is DSFix. As for the controller I'd highly recommend one. If you have a PS3 controller you can use that too using some kind of mapping program.

Fighting Flamelurker has reminded me how much harder demon's Souls is compared to Dark Souls :(.

Do you not think its perhaps you are now so familiar with Dark Souls now you have forgotten what it was like when you started out? I'm sure now you know how to deal with all the bosses, their weaknesses, I remember when I first played getting smacked silly by the Taurus Demon, the gargoyles, Capra etc! :D

Having played through Demons Souls on my friends PS3 recently (great game) I would have to say I found it relatively straightforward to make progress compared to Dark Souls, maybe it was the unlimited heals and all the gear with heal over time (Blessed Mace, ring etc).

I'm sure it would have been a different matter had I not played Dark Souls first.

It could be, but I still think DS is harder than DkS :p. I don't think I've helped myself by getting PBWT (also on NG+) on Stonefang Tunnel either haha. I don't use any regen gear as it seems pretty cheap personally. There aren't unlimited heals but you can farm the grass. It just acts as more punishment for me though when I end up dying after using 10 New Moon Grass :o!

Yes, I did regret using the blessed mace, perhaps I made it too easy...although I didn't find it for a while, I was using a ******* sword until then. EDIT - Bar Steward sword

I wonder if world tendencies or perhaps day/night cycles where different enemies appear or different secrets are accessible will make an appearance in Dark Souls 2...

To be fair I got Flamelurker stuck on the environment and Soul Arrowed him to death my first time through the game (my first real experience of Souls games) and then as soon as I got the Dragon Bone Smasher I literally roflstomped the rest of the game bar 1-3 and the False King which feels cheap looking back now.

I like the idea behind the tendency system but it wasn't very well explained so you need the Wiki if you want any idea what you're doing with it. I really liked it's Black Phantom enemy system over DkS's one with the Gravelord's but to this day the BP Giant depraved ones can suck my dick :p.

Could do with a few tips on what armour I should be looking to use. Atm, I am wearing the Wanderers stuff with baldur's gauntlets. I go through spells where I put something heavier on, but it seems so clunky! Putting all my points in Dexter and endurance btw, but thinking of putting a bit into intelligence and starting to use magic more.

Elite Knight set seems to be the best of what I have stats wise.

Just killed Capra Demon, though I used all of my Estrus flasks and was incredibly low on health at the end!

It really depends on your place style, and sometimes it's best to mix and match.
For instance, my PVP build wears the gold hemmed outfit, because of it's fire resistance to help against pyromancy spammers, but I wear havels leggings to give me abit of poise while im spamming with my uchi :D

Okay I've been playing this all week, about 16 hours in, and Im not finding things particularly hard? Maybe cause I heard it was ridiculous and Ive levelled up more than i maybe should, but things tend to fall in 1 or 2 hits, bosses Im killing on the 3rd attempt.... Its an absolutely incredible game, i just dont see the challenge i guess. I do die a fair bit, my humanity has maxed at 3. :) about to enter the depths, i imagine its about to get crazy. It better had!

I've used my keyboard and mouse all along and initially it was a right royal pain to play, but the addition of DSMfix really helped on that front, in addition to DSfix to make things look nicer.

Not sure re the blackscreen but if you haven't done it already I'd be tempted to default all the graphics settings and then stick on DSfix to see if that sorts it out.

Reinstalling atm and trying without dsmfix to see if i get the xbox controller working :P

reinstalled and tried without dsmfix, looks goddamn horrible lol, and controller isnt working >.<

DSMfix is just a mouse fix - I didn't think it had any other use at all, ie controllers!? Can't help re the controller anyway as I don't have one.

If you decide to KB and mouse I'd try one thing at a time...
Ramp up the graphics side of things in game (without vsync) and try it out briefly. If your game is still working apply DSfix and see how it looks. Then stick on DSMfix, following the instructions here : http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~petska/

Tried to install it to my other computer wont work.. :S.

aha, found this "wait, you're not using a play and charge kit are you? Sorry, but those cables can't send data, only recieve it. "

when i put the controller to usb port i get this message " xbox 360 wireless controller via play & charge kit"

so i need another controller >.< goddamn lol

Make sure you don't get confused between the fixes, they all have stupidly similar names :p.

DSFix - Fixes for the graphics and locked framefrate - Make sure AA and Motion Blur are turned off in the in-game option menu!

DSMFix - Fixes the poor mouse control in game - Completely uninstall this before trying to use a controller as it can conflict with it.

I'd try and get a wired 360 controller and see how that works :).

I am in the Depths now. I opened the area in Darkroot Gardens with the crest, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet!... Got killed by just one Knight pretty easily, so retrieved my stuff and I'll leave it for later.

I also followed a guide to return to Undead Asylum... Killed everything there except the Demon thing that you fall through the floor to... Didn't stand a chance tbh, barely got my footing before he killed me(tried it about 4 times)

You followed a guide on your first playthrough?! Shame on you :p
