Dashcams!

My 0806 is going in on Friday - contacted local MB dealer, who contract a firm for such aftermarket things, and he is going to work his tidy install magic :)

All installed, guy MB dealer sent out has done a nice and tidy job - no idea where the wires go after leaving the base, but comes on and off with the ignition :D

Quick trip to the dentist earlier is the only footage I have so far, set on 2560x1080, and am impressed with the image. Decided QTPlayer is not for me - juddery playback - and downloaded Registrator Viewer, which is really great.

I have just ordered a CPL (rainforest) as am seeing some reflection from windscreen etc. Not too bad, but will try with the CPL also. Seems I have the speed set in KM/H presently, and the clock is an hour adrift (guessing GPS and daylight saving fiddle)....but otherwise, really liking what I am seeing.

VLC is the only player I have ever needed for any file.

Bought a £35 quid cheapy from ebay and it is working faultlessly. Don't really need all the GPS data as anyone with eyes can recognise the locations really.

So far I could send the Police footage of dangerous lawbreakers every day if I wished. Some right shockers in my area. But then most of them are 1 generation away from village I reckon. Had one guy abusing my student on a lesson so pointed to the camera and he soon reeled his neck in.

Had this idiot nearly hit me on a roundabout tonight. He decided to take the exit from the inside lane. (Only need to watch first 15 seconds, forgot to trim it)

Out of interest, is there anywhere that you can show the police footage of dangerous driving? Is it a case of just uploading to Youtube and contacting the Police and sending them a link to the video or is there a website that specialises in this sort of thing?

I know that Surrey Road Police have a twitter feed. So, I presume other forces also have similar. So, you could always share it there, and see how they respond.

However, in reality, I would make sure it was a properly bad piece of driving before sharing it!

This. Don't waste their time sending them every little near-miss that occurs.

Yup... I wouldn't even send the one that UberTiger posted.

Some people are twits sure, some people just have a bad day and make a mistake... not everyone should be penalised for making a mistake or just being in a bad mood and doing something silly... you don't know the story behind their choice of action.

It would have to be a really really bad piece of driving for me to upload or an actual accident.

CPL arrived and now fitted - yet to see how it improves the reflections, which are not *so* bad, but obvious in really bright conditions.
First one arrived with annoying mark in centre of lens, swiftly returned and replacement ordered - do like rainforest CS :)
I have my 0806 running on Superfine 2560x1080, but aware I may need to experiment with HDR 1080p if the CPL takes too much light out in darker driving conditions.

I certainly wouldn't share my footage with the police, not incredibly dangerous driving that should be reported, but it was definitely a near miss at the time. If I had continued accelerating away as normal and not braked I would have gone straight into the side of his car as he crossed me, got my heart rate up at the time as it was so unexpected.

The great thing about roundabouts is that if you miss your turn off you go around again. You don't cut across a load of lanes and very nearly cause an accident to make your exit.

Only really posted it here as it was the first incident I've had since getting the camera, so an excuse to upload something :p . Interestingly, if it had been an accident and he legged it I'm not sure I'd have got the reg number from that footage. In the rear camera though his reg no. is clear as day as he slows to pull up next to me at the light.

I had something vaguely similar happen to me the week before last on our way to poland... but it was cutting across very heavy traffic on a fast moving motorway onto an exist i was already on. I braked for him... he braked too seemingly trying to get in behind me when it appeared he was trying to get in front.

He was so late, so far into the crosshatch... he very nearly ended up front-ending the armco.

Ended up slotting in behind me despite his braking... seemed to give him a bit of a shock at least... so he was much more behaved after that.

Things like this are silly... risking your life and others just for a couple of minutes.

I may have done the odd late exit... but not like that... if it gets that late... you carry on to the next and turn around... especially not worth the risk for 5-10 minutes on your journey & when I've done something close (not anything like your video)... I've always made sure it's clear and that cars around wouldn't even need to slow down.

His driving was just dangerous... and especially silly if he saw you were going straight ahead and he was going left.

Doubt they will do anything, I was following one today stuck behind a tractor and the pair of them were too busy chatting to notice the tractor driver was on the phone.

This is where my post stemmed from. My dad has footage of a Range Rover jumping the lights two seconds after they turned red.

He said he saw it approaching in his rear view mirror and he had to manoeuvre to the left as he thought he was going to get rear ended or swiped on the right. Reg is clearly visible as well.

Envious, bitter people.

I don't know if I can be faffed with getting one of those devices that monitors the car battery voltage while powering the dashcam when parked. Not sure it would be worth it on my non-supercar.

Bought one of these ages ago but sadly fried it with my terrible wiring. Had some epic road rage against me on Saturday so reminded me to sort it - and get someone else to fit it!

How much would it be to have someone install two 0806s front and back, just as ballpark?

For me, I got my 0806 fitted to the front of my CLS for £72.90. This was a 3rd party guy sent by local MB dealer, and he did an absolutely fantastic job.

If the Police are not interested in these idiots maybe its time these clips should be posted on a moronic drivers youtube channel and shared via social media with the intention of shaming them. At the end of the day it REALLY doesn't matter what their excuse is for driving like an idiot and if its putting peoples lives and property at risk then they should be reported if only for them to get a knock on the door to tell them that they are aware of their driving from reports from the public and should they be reported again they will be arrested/fined/banned.

On another note my friend caught a crash for cash on his dashcam and is currently being investigated by the police and insurance fraud team. Having watched the video its so obvious that's what they were doing even one of the passenger clocks my mates dashcam and starts to turn away from the camera and hide his face.
