Dashcams!

Yea a few seconds of patience is all it takes. I would have gave out a little sigh to myself and slowed down to let him out, then carry on with my day.

Life is too short to get angry over every little incident. If I posted every little thing like this then I'd be doing a video a day.

I am in the roundabout at 9 seconds. He enters the roundabout 3 seconds later after I am half way between my entrace and his. I am then blocked for several seconds so even if I was slower he would have blocked me.

I knew what he was going to do the moment I saw the truck lol, still not an excuse to jump out on a busy roundabout when you feel like it.
Nah, sorry, but it clearly sounds like you hoofed it as you pulled into the roundabout, the trucker would have seen a gap - yes slight but a gap nonetheless - and went for it, you shut the door on yourself by hoofing it, all you had to do was just pull off at a moderate speed and everyone would be happy.

You were barely blocked at all and had you not put your foot down he’d have caused you no real inconvenience whatsoever.
He’d have seen you and the gap and allowed for it,and assumed you’d be traveling at a reasonable speed - if you try to floor it into a 17ton road block wouldn’t have been his concern whatsoever I can assure you!

Unfortunately a classic case of a dash cam warrior showing themselves up I’m afraid.

As a professional driver to somebody who isn’t, try to understand where you went wrong here, ie it’s a road and a busy one at that not a ****ing racetrack.

Typical Dashcammer response tbh. Sorry but I agree with what the others said.
Yep, see a situation about to unfold (he even says 'I knew what he was going to do') so the chosen course of action? Accelerate and get on the horn. Typical dashcam ****er behaviour.

Even at "moderate speed" I would still have had to have braked, remember that dash cams elongate everything you see, the distance traveled was shorter than it appears and I was taking that roundabout as I usually do, it is not a place to hang about. 4-5 seconds I had to wait in the end, even at 10 mph I would have had to have come to a complete stop on a roundabout feeding in from 60mph roads. As such there was only a gap because he body blocked it.

Just because I can spot idiots on the road early does not make up for what they do.

Agreed. Poor anticipation.

Everyone should drive a truck for a day. Will give them a bit of respect for the challenges of larger vehicles, maybe it will make them better drivers too.

No, you caused that, its very easy to see. Yes, he pulled out, but you could have driven a little less quickly, and got away with nothing more than a light cover on the brakes and a sigh.

Having had an actual collision with a foreign lorry on a round-about myself, I learnt from it that a little bit of caution and anticipation is a good idea to protect yourself. The lorry driver was not going out his way to annoy you, or cause an accident. He just wanted to get on his way to complete his day.

In my instance the lorry driver pulled an illegal, and incorrect manoeuvre crossing 3 lanes, but I had put myself in danger by not anticipating a possibly dangerous situation. Despite not being in "the wrong" I figured out that I should be a little wary of such situations in future, and have learnt from it. So normally I am very defensive of people getting done over by a lorry doing something odd, but really, you created that, and it should have been nothing more than a mild inconvenience.

Take it on the chin, and become a better driver as a result.. I know its annoying to be "in the right" legally, but sort of wrong, but it comes with experience and you will be a better driver as a result! :)

The video does make it look like you saw the situation and then chose to a accelerate up to the lorry? So you could beep your horn?

I’ve been in a lorry, not driven one so sort of appreciate the difficult jobs they do, yes some lorry drivers are divs like car and motorbike riders can be but they are driving something big, slow and heavy so it’s always good to give them some space. I’ve seen drivers edge up to the side of a lorry which is about to enter a roundabout, where do they think the lorry driver will create the space the lorry needs to go round?

I was half way between the junctions at the time he pulled out and was accelerating up to the speed I was exiting the junction, I would have done the same without him there.

Just I noticed what he did and braked without getting hit like you did, so I am aware of what others are doing and have not been hit by a lorry myself ;)

With the attitude you have shown in the footage, and this thread, it's only a matter of time ;)

Take a look at the responses in this thread in relation to your driving. Its fairly unanimous. Perhaps its worth a re-think?

Nothing to do with dashcams IMO, everything to do with Human nature and trying to prove a point and see it all to often.

As for the new 4k Blackvue above I would be interested on how long the MicroSD card lasts when it is writing that much info onto it constantly.

I just make allowances as I drive - if someone jumps me provided it wasn't dangerous I just pass it off as so what - I am sure everyone on here has jumped for a small gap sometime in the past.

My rear camera has stopped recording permanently - it's now on motion which I don't want - been through menu but it doesn't work - Had it 5 yrs now - a mini 0806 so just bought a Mini 0826 - They are fine for me as it's on the rear screen. This one is slightly bigger and has more air vents -- A question was asked earlier if we leave them on after leaving the car -Mine have stick on brackets so I leave them - Had front on 4 years at least -a Roadhawk HD and no one has nicked it yet.

Need to change time on the camera

Been thinking about dash cams in general as I do like having mine in, do we think they should become mandatory?

In my view they should, it would save so much time for police, insurances, accident investigation in general.

I'm pretty sure any car 2000 on wards would be able to have one fit.

Would anyone here agree to such a law if you didn't have one?

Considering the cost it would be tricky to make them mandatory, ok you can pick up a cheap one for £50 but a decent one costs £100+.

If it's to be used by police investigation, accident investigation etc. you may as well just fit every car with a GPS black box to record every thing you do when driving.

I agree dashcams are a good idea, but them being mandatory would be my idea of hell.

No I don't think they should be mandatory. Much like black boxes should not be mandatory.

I have one but was told by a broker NOT to declare it as part of my policy. Their reasoning was that if I did and then was involved in a collision and subsequently the footage was either not recorded or lost, through malfunction of the camera and/or SD card, it would give the insurance company a reason to decline any pay-out.

At the moment they aren't classed as a modification of the vehicle so no need to declare their presence.

Exactly. Dashcams should be seen as a 100% honest and reliable witness that you can chose to use if you need to, however, being 100% honest isn't always good... I can imagine the scene..

Dear Mr Smith, We've reviewed the evidence and we can see from the dashcam and gps recording that you were indeed stationary at time of impact from behind, which caused 3.5g's of accelerations in a forwards motion. However, we can also see that at precisely 1 minute and 37 seconds prior to the impact you were singing along to Dolly Parton which was playing at 75% volume, which may have impaired your driving ability. We can also see that 3 minutes and 2 seconds prior to the impact you were travelling at 71mph in a 70mph limit and also used 40% braking force and 22% steering yaw 2 minutes and 49 seconds prior to the impact. Due to these contributing factors, we have decided to decline your claim.

Yeah, no thanks! :D

That article is nearly 2 months old, the feature has been live for awhile.

Its very basic though, only works when the car is on, records an hour and doesn't use a wide angle camera. Its better than nothing though which is what every other car gets.
