Dashcams!

People seem to think there was some risk of me hitting the lorry, there was not. Driving defensively means you leave enough time to react to an incident, I did, I almost came to a complete stop and could have done so if required so people can get off their high horse about that.

Coming to a complete stop or even nearly in the middle of a busy roundabout is not safe at all.
Reacting to the Lorry sooner and slowing more gently to keep things moving more consistently would have been far safer.

You are allowed to be wrong on the internet. In fact people will think far more of you if you can recognise your errors and learn from them.

Take it on the chin. Enough people of all different walks of life, experience level and driver type have all commented and it's almost universally stated you just got it a bit wrong. Sometimes we don't know we are making a mistake till others point it out for us.

:)

Using the horn is for when you need to alert another road user of your presence. Trucker already knew you were there, he had a gap, went for it. Just didn't know that you would plant your foot down in order to conclude mild road rage what with the beeping and braking and talking and silliness.

Truck was acting like I was not there, planting my foot would have got me a lot faster than 30 MPH, remember the speedo is not going to show a smooth acceleration due to the update time. This was simply how I would normally accelerate off this roundabout into a 60 going into 40MPH zone.

I would have needed to do a consistent 10MPH on entering the roundabout to avoid the truck completely, it's blocking the lane for 6 seconds in front of me.

Everyone is going to love me going 10MPH because the truck *MIGHT* decide to jump out in front of me illegally.

I have openly admitted on this forum being wrong and apologized before. What you are suggesting is equally dangerous on this roundabout, people start doing crazy stuff round here if you hang about every time you see a lorry. It prevented me from driving normally, in a fashion that would lead me to maximum safety and using my right of way.

Trucker was 100% in the wrong on this one.

People like to take pot shots at others driving when they post their own driving *shrug*

I'll continue to drive like I do with my 0% crashes in traffic despite those who swerve lanes, jump out at roundabouts or simply can't drive in a straight line with my daily long distance commute.

You don’t need a speedo to hear that you put your foot down.

The truck was there and you drive at it accelerating and then had to brake, he’s always going to win a head to head and you would have actually got on with your journey sooner if you held back

Tbh nothing ‘that‘ wrong with it. Just I take issue with the use of the horn aggressively. It’s similar to those people who flash who’s went you overtake them... pointless and just makes situations like this worse

If you listen to the engine, fine, I accelerate before the truck enters the roundabout (9-10 seconds in the video), as soon as it does enter (11-12 seconds) I pull off the accelerator and the engine note decreases.

I drive as if the truck driver is not going to be a dick and illegally pull out in front of traffic coming from the right but slow down as it does.

Have you looked at Blackvue ? I'd rather have one of those, my brother has a decent 2-ch one, I have a thinkware 2-ch
I will admit I liked the discreet look of the Blackvue cameras - but they seem to start at around £190 for the DR590W. I'm not so worried about the ability to add a read camera, but £60 more than the Nextbase, but certainly a "better looking" device.

Mother in law wants a dash cam for Christmas. Budget £25-£35? Been looking at various deals but it’s a sea of products.

Anything worthwhile at that price or does the Wife need to up her game?

Wife / mother-in-law ? Is there no difference in your family?

Not sure at that price point, I would rule out the parking mode stuff at that price range though

I really think the market needs a small dash cam, sub £50 with full HD high quality, no screen and neat little mount.
Does such a thing exist yet?

Quite a few I thought... I've tried a few anyway. Granted, some might be £60 rather than sub £50, but you can probably find them in a sale at some point.

So, any opinion on the "Nextbase" dashcams?
There seems to be 3 models that are in my kind of price range
312GW - 1080p
412GM - 1440p
512GW - 1440p
Prices being at £99, £129 & £149.
Seem to be well featured, compact and quite well priced.

I see at least one person had a good experience with Halfords fitting. I'm sorry, you can link me to 1001 "self install" videos, I'll get somebody else to do this one for me thanks.

I bought a 512gw 3 moinths ago. I have the rear camera too. I paid £125 for both front and back when Halfords were running an amazing deal which I saw on HUKD.

Happy with it so far - quality is very goo. It even picked up a car reversing <5mph into my car, even after i sounded my horm to alert him of my presence.

I haven't wired the rear camera cables abover the headliner fully, but manage to hide enough in the pillars not to be in the way. The front was easy to fit myself and hide the cables.

The front camera is quite big, but it's hard to say if someone would notice unless they are looking for one You do have the option to unclip it if you want though to hve it out of sight.

I'm thinking of getting this one.You can get it cheaper direct from china but obviously risk customs and longer to wait.

£42.99 with discount and free delivery option from Amazon.

Looks ok, but why does it have to have Wi-Fi and all that jazz :D

I put something very similar into my Mrs car, and it works ok, but still has bells and whistles that just bump up the price needlesslely :(
