Dashcams!

So, any opinion on the "Nextbase" dashcams?
There seems to be 3 models that are in my kind of price range
312GW - 1080p
412GM - 1440p
512GW - 1440p
Prices being at £99, £129 & £149.
Seem to be well featured, compact and quite well priced.

I see at least one person had a good experience with Halfords fitting. I'm sorry, you can link me to 1001 "self install" videos, I'll get somebody else to do this one for me thanks.

What did you decide, if any?
I’m looking at the 512 but the size kind of puts me off slightly (only a bit).

I haven't! :)
My wife had said she would get me one for Christmas.
I was looking at the Halfords range as they fit for £30 and although I'm not a massive Halfords fan, people do seem to say they do a good job.

The Nextbase units were competitively priced, but I too wonder if they are a little on the large size. I do like the Blackvue units from a compact and smart look, but oh so much more expensive.
Still undecided at the moment.

The "kid" at Halfords who fitted mine did a good job, it took about a week for me to get an appointment as they were booked solid doing dashcam installs.

So installed my Yi Dashcam, very easy to route the USB cable in my car, all nicely tucked away.

Some pics.

I'll grab some footage at some point to see how it looks.

Yea black would be more discreet. I'm not bothered tbh, it's a camera and I'm not trying to covertly film stuff :D

It's more for opportunist theives, if it's plainly visible from the outside it's more likely to be seen by someone walking by. The stealthier style cameras need a good look to notice especially at night.

I park on the street, not in a bad area, but all it takes is one person walking down the road late at night and you're left with a broken window and a dashcam out of pocket...

I'm not worried about thieves tbh, the area out the front of my house is very exposed and it's under a street light (as you can see in the photo).

A rear one is definitely useful to get the full picture of an incident and to cover yourself for rear impacts.

Just get a dual camera system and you're good.

Just purchased the VIOFO A129 Duo Dual for my Mazda 6.

Seems to be one of the best supported models with a great company backup with up to date firmware and great reviews.

Only problem is I have ordered the 3 Wire ACC Hardwire Kit for Parking Mode and it could take a while to ship.

Still unsure about the parking mode and the possibility of battery drain, even though the 3 wire kit has a cut off feature.

So was my daughters !

It was only a £50 cheapy as well

Bad times :(

I’m not saying it’s not going to happen but my car is on my drive under a street light exposed from all angles. I’m also planning to get a visible camera out the front.

That looks ridiculous hanging like that. Is it really worth the bother?

It looks fine, it’s a camera. I don’t see it while I’m in the car and it’s only so obvious in the photo because the sun is directly on the window.

It was £25 and a good stop gap until I get something better.

Edit.

Audi do a pretty decent OEM style. Pretty pricey but looks good.

A stopgap dashcam. Where do you live, a lawless failed state? Are things that bad that not only do you need a spy cam hanging off your screen but you need a temporary one until you can find another??

I suppose I shouldnt complain as dashcammers are easier to spot when they have them so obviously hanging from the screen :p
