Dashcams!

A stopgap dashcam. Where do you live, a lawless failed state? Are things that bad that not only do you need a spy cam hanging off your screen but you need a temporary one until you can find another??

I suppose I shouldnt complain as dashcammers are easier to spot when they have them so obviously hanging from the screen :p

I wanted a Dashcam and this came up at a good price. It’s was and still is my intention to get a better dashcam when I have the funds and time to research it.

I’ve had someone run a red light and hit my car. They told the insurance I ran the red, I had no evidence so it went 50/50.

Insurance companies outlooks on dashcams still make me laugh. I enquired last year about any change to the premium for fitting them to a couple of my vehicles and they wanted me to send a formal mail stating my reasons for the thing but said that the cost would go up as it was classed as a vehicle modification. Now every company is begging for them to be fitted.

Look at the dashcammers on YouTube, would you want to insure most of them? :D

Kind of a fair point. I still say day to day the worst drivers I encounter tend to be those with them and huge signs say things like 'smile you're on camera' or 'cctv on board'.

The more of the videos I see, the more I think your insurance should increase for having one - it seems they encourage a "I'm in the right and I have a camera, so i'm not going to avoid this obviously avoidable collision because I can PROVE I was right" style of driving :p

It is getting silly with them now, I had a visit from the Police after over
taking a car with a dashcam. They obviously didn’t include the bit where they were driving at 30mph on a clear stretch of 60mph A road and then accelerating hard when I went to overtake.

I was prepared for the driver speeding up and the sensible thing to have done was to pull back in but I kept the foot down and went pass at a fair pace.

No doubt in my mind that it was a deliberate action to get some footage to report. I was more surprised the Police turned up at my door over it with all the reports of cuts !

I know what you mean, you often see dashcam videos where the video publisher has caused the incident - failing to let vehicles merge etc. Saying that though, you must have made a dangerous manoeuvre if the police deemed it worthy to speak to you.

Don't think I did as I was multiple car lengths away before pulling back in well before any bend/corner on a straight section of road with only the dashcam car behind me with no other cars on the either side of the road, they went bombing past me after I eased off. It wasn't huge speeds either I was surprised they turned up TBH.

On the other hand, If you'd had a dashcam you could've shown the "Pre-Footage" to the Rozzers and they'd have prosecuted HIM for deliberately speeding up whilst being overtaken.

What was the outcome of this?

Nothing came of it I am still intrigued to what the other driver said I had done I assume some story was made up. I didn't discuss the incident with the officers as the sole purpose of the visit was for me to hopefully give incriminating evidence which they were fine with and left with have a nice day.

Was it a single carriageway?

I've overtaken police on a Dual carriageway/motorway before but I don't think I'd have the balls to do it on a single carriageway. I'd assume they were driving slow for a good reason.

He didn't overtake the police, just some random with a dash cam who was probably trying to bait motorists so they could get some good YouTube footage. They obviously submitted it to the police which resulted in the poster getting a visit.

People going 30-40mph in a NSL who then speed up when you go to overtake is far to common not just on standard roads but also dual+ carriage ways. One of my biggest annoyances is people who cant maintain a constant speed. Constantly having to play cat and mouse overtake games or when you go to overtake they speed up and match your speed. You then get it in the neck from people trying to get past you but its the car on the inside playing silly games.

Most of the time they are just not paying attention and when they realise they speed up. What they should do is if someone has already started the overtake is to just let them pass and then speed up but sadly some people are just ****.

Even worse when your in a truck. Even more annoying when you pull over to allow a truck access and the Dillons speed up to the limiter trapping you outside, causing mayhem behind you !

Dashcam gurus - I'm looking at picking up something inexpensive, probably a decent pre-owned job on the Bay or Gumtree. Been looking at the following:-

Nextbase 112
Nextbase 402G
Motorola MDC 100

Budget is roundabout £40-£50.

Any advice on these three as in, which would be the best bet? I'm thinking I'd be better sticking with known manufacturers as eBay and the green rainforest place are full of loads of cheap ones but most look like a bit of a lottery in terms of performance.

Ta.

I come across it often on the motorway, I'm tottling along at 70 on CC, come across someone doing 60-65 so I move out to overtake and they either speed up or once I've completed my maneuver they floor it, overtake me and then slow back down again. Usually middle-aged mouth-breather in a cheap vauxhall/Kia faux by faux.
