Dashcams!

Are dash cams always on? When you've parked up will they continue to record? What about memory capacity and car battery issues?

That depends on what dashcam you buy, what car you have and how you wire it.

- A lot of dashcams have a parking function with an internal battery that will activate when it senses movement either through the optical sensor or a g-sensor
- The most basic way to install is simply to plug it in to a cigarette lighter socket. Some cars sockets are always-on and others power on/off with the ignition
- If you feel like doing the install properly yourself or paying someone to do it, then you can easily hardwire one into an ignition-linked power source.

One other option is to use a voltage regulator cut-off... something that monitors the voltage coming from the battery and shuts the power feed off when it gets too low.

Most of them use low power cpu's so don't really sup that much juice - I'm not concerned at all. Read about others going overkill and installing second batteries and other stuff like wtf! lol.

Top end cameras have voltage detection (like the F750 I gots) - when the battery drops it completely switches off the unit.

Parking surveillance mode on the F750 uses a combination of motion detection and the G sensor to decide when to record, unlike the continuous recording of when you've started your car. Mine is getting installed on saturday now :( looking forward to testing this particular feature

still having problems with my mini 0806

the one problem I have with it now, is the fact that it doesn't record over when the memory card is full

I heard it turn off as I was driving, thought it was not connected, so I formatted the card and it worked again

any ideas?

I have set it to record over, 1 min intervals and set the G sensor to maximum (4.5G)

Set all the G sensors to off or it starts to write protect files when you hit pot holes and stuff, after a while your card fills up with undeletable files and doesn't leave enough space to record on. Maybe why it started working again after you formatted it.

Had my front and back 0805's installed for a couple of days and had this lorry pull out on me without indicating. Mind boggles.

Were you not indicating for the junction after? Not saying what he did was correct he should be stopping and checking if you're going into that junction or not when there are two that close but it might be an explanation.

I've had my 0806 for a couple of months and only just gotten round to trying to install it, and it turns out now it won't even turn on. Ugh, any idea how I can send it back when amazon says the return period is closed? It wasn't from Amazon direct and I've tried the reset tips.

Livechat with Amazon, they will send you a new one, then you just send the duff one back in the new one's box. All costs covered as it's Amazon DropOff.

Happy with the quality! Not sure why speed isn't working though?

You are aware that's a car driver in a van that has a Luton body on it, NOT a Lorry ?
The difference is...... I M M E N S E !!

So the 0806 is being returned. Seems like they are having a lot of problems with that model. The seller I used doesn't supply them anymore and Ive noticed a number of websites saying they have failed their quality tests.

Can anyone recommend anything similar? Looking to mount behind the rear view mirror on a z4 so inconspicuous is good. I don't want to have to use a suction mount or anything like that.

Will most cameras work with the wingoneer hardwire kit I have installed for the 0806?

What's your point?

No, it's the last junction to a family's house so do it all the time and don't indicate until at the one before as I know they're close/confusing.

Does anyone have a Mobius ActionCam? What's the benefit of using the super capacitor over the built in battery (it'll be hard wired for power in the car) - I've set it to continue recording 5 minutes after the power has been turned off but I can't see the super capacitor being able to do this.

I doubt it will either. The benefit of a cap is that it will last much longer life than a battery. Cars get very hot in the summer and this will have an impact on a Li-Ion battery over a period of time.

Electrolytic caps can withstand this a lot better. Some go to 85 degrees Celsius and more commonly now a days 105 degrees Celcius.

My 0803 has a battery in it, but I would imagine when it gives up, it'd be a fairly easy job for someone to replace who has a bit of electronics experience.
