Dashcams!

I would like to buy a dash cam for my dad as a xmas gift, although I have no idea of what budget to set.

I would like the camera to have the following features:
- Decent enough quality for insurance purposes
- Ability to have the Camera connected to power source whilst its recording (some get really hot when you do that)
- Automatic overwrite (can't remember the word for that future)
- Collision detection to stop the recording.

Could also have:
- GPS Tracker

They pretty much all have all you you require. But with regards to collision detection, the very best thing to do if you have an accident is to take out the SD card and put in another.

Gear best raised the price now to 110 USD for the China warehouse, US is still the same but EU and RU is out of stock.

Managed to get an order to EU just before they removed from the choices, currently at 2-weeks and counting.

Hi

Im after getting a dashcam as well for my dad.

I have found the Transcend drive pro 200 on Amazon, they also have a 220 version as well for slightly more.

Can anyone recommend the above and if the 220 is worth the extra?

thanks

The 220 is added GPS, isn't it?

Same camera otherwise...

(i think)

They use internal batteries for parking mode.

Personally I avoided dash cameras with batteries, as in summer there is a danger it could overheat

Yeah looking the 220 has battery but I think I still need it plugged in anyway so I think I will get the 200 if I get this one. Not to bothered about gps, think the 220 is slightly smaller but its marginal.

The drive pro 200 is £85 and the 220 is £115. For a first dash cam I think the 200 is the best bet.

From the Transcend website:

Parking Mode to Safeguard Your Vehicle when You're Away
With the latest motion detection technology, DrivePro 220 can automatically start recording when the sensor detects a movement in Parking Mode.

*Parking Mode will drain DrivePro 220's battery

They don't as they are too low capacity, they use them to safely save the last clip or keep a camera running a few minutes after power off. Parking mode needs a permanent live feed the tiny internal batteries would not have anywhere enough juice.

Could use a 20000mah portable power bank to run these overnight without direct feed to the battery

Parking Mode records for as long as the built-in battery lasts, which is approximately 30 minutes.

In other words next to useless.;)
