Dashcams!

what camera is this, looks like the sort of camera i want i.e quality

Sorry for the late reply, it's a Koonlung K1S with both a front and rear camera.

The quality of that particular video isn't representative either. It's quite heavily cropped as I was experimenting in iMovie with removing my reg.

They were about £220 when I was looking in the summer. Found one at UK based online dashcam shop for about £190. Seems they've dropped a fair bit more now to the £150 range.

Incredibly small cameras, so hard to spot in the window. I posted quite a few pics earlier in the thread somewhere.

Edit: Russ, woah! You should send the footage to Watchdog or Which. That's awful.

Can anybody recommend a dashcam that's easily attachable/detachable for use with driving different vehicles and preferably keeps recording with the engine off?

It was more for a friend to see, they never told me i was getting a refurb box, i had to wait over a month for this gearbox from Renault in France.

Making assumptions about my driving, they didn't know i only bought the car a month earlier, 1 week when i first took it in to Renault.

Nothing to major, just found it funny they don't realise they're being recorded, it's a fully visible cam G1W-H.

Technically they've done nothing wrong, unless you were being deliberately deceived about the gearbox condition. They're also entitled to their opinions.

However it does make you feel totally disrespected as a customer to hear some know it all mechanic showing off, jumping to conclusions and bad mouthing you based on his assumptions. Bloke sounds like a total twit. Hope you took the pleasure in playing that video back to his superiors.

Finally got some time to Hardwire install my Blackvue DR650GW front and rear system.

I'd say it took me about 90 minutes, including hooking up the Multi-safer to the fusebox, making sure I was happy with the camera positions and hiding away all the power and coaxial cabling in the headlining. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I wanted to hid everything away. Because my 5 Series has the 'Headlight assist' thing it already has a camera in the body of the rear view mirror, so I had to offset it on the passenger side slightly.

So it'll help in insurance claims, but hopefully I won't need to actually use it!

Didn't see it mentioned so just a heads up; Adrian Flux offer discount to existing customers if you tell them you have a dashcam installed.

I imagine they do with new customers too, though if you're getting it on a new quote, I'd tell them after they give you the final quote.

Anyone know if am I supposed to remove the CPL filter when driving at night?

I never have an it has been fine.

Only on certain cars, if you have a run of the mill car you get a discount but anything with poke you will be lucky to get it. They still guarantee to beat any other quote anyway.

Bought and hardwired a 0806 a month ago with two 128GB cards.

IQ is good but reliability just isn't. Hangs and stops recording until you drain the battery. Twice now it has happened, next to useless so getting a refund.

Shame really as the dual mSD ports and IQ were perfect.

Blackvue generally regarded as one of the best? I don't need all this wifi business just something that will record for 48 hours and has minimal current draw as it is hardwired.

I never have, it seems fine. Obviously the image is brighter with it off, so you could I suppose.

I never have an it has been fine.

Cheers. I just did some quick comparison and it seems Ill be keeping the CPL filter on.

Without the CPL the lights from the opposite cars causes too much flare. Its a shame as the footage is better when there are no incoming cars.

Looking for a dash cam with relatively good image quality that will plug in to the cigarette socket and also have a USB connection in the plug do these exist?

have you set it up correctly?
parking off
Shock sensor off
auto write over
etc

Parking mode isn't included on the last firmware, only thing that is on is motion detection which is on high.

It must be a internal counter or something that runs out after a period of time, plugged it back in this morning and it is working fine again now its reset.

Fills both 128GB cards. Might turn off the motion detection and turn off auto power off and just let it record.

If you look at the comments on the mini0806.com website it seems I'm not the only one.

Has anyone with an 0805 (or 01/03/06, assuming they use exactly the same mount) noticed that the red 'charging' light flickers because of seemingly poor contact to the GPS/charging base? It does seem a bit wobbly.

It doesn't seem to affect its operation at all, but I feel I should sort it. I guess I just need to make the camera>base fit a bit tighter.
