Dashcams!

They seem to do fine with blurry CCTV footage on other cases. There is contravening a road sign, dangerous driving and leaving the scene all on HD camera. The driver should have been arrested same day and charges added after witness statements if the CPS (Criminal Protection Service) decided to prosecute.

Difficult one the vid clearly shows a muppet in car doing wrong. But the way the biker looks over his shoulder makes me think he knew the car was coming his way, maybe he has a 6th sense or something happened a few minutes ago between the two?

The problem with the dash cam age (I have one in my car) is they only show one view and it may well be correct at that single point. But it wont include the other parts to the story.

For all we know the biker came down the outside of queuing traffic and few moments before and knocked the cars wing mirror off?

Im not condoning the cars actions but I don't like to jump to conclusions from a snippet of video either. If the car was just doing exactly what the vid shows and jumping a queue then fine he has indeed done more than one thing wrong and should be punished, but unless we have a vid of the last mile or so we and the police wont know.

I think the audi manoeuvred into a wrong lane, panicked, tried to get back with the flow of traffic, got dazzled by sun glare (which you can see is clearly present) missed sight of the biker, the biker saw the car coming and pre-empted the impact by falling off the bike.

Personally I think they've made a mountain out of a mole hill here, it's technically a hit-n-run yes. But if it was that serious I doubt the vehicle recording would have driven off at the point of impact.

There are more detailed accounts on news sites now about an altercation prior to the footage, the biker down the outside and the audi driver opening her door whilst he's going past, words exchanged and then the dashcam footage. I can't tell who was driving from the video and I doubt a court would take that video as evidence of who was at the wheel, so more witnesses needed.

Apparently the motor cyclist had some injuries and even a broken bone or two according to one website, so it's serious enough!

That's rarely, if ever, the only evidence. You still need to identify the driver of the vehicle.

I recently bought the Transcend Drivepro 220 dash cam and I'm not overly impressed. The lane departure audible warning can hardly be heard on max volume setting. The 1080p video quality stutters somewhat. If I use the built in mic the audio quality is also very poor and sounds scratchy. When using it in good daylight no matter what exposure value I use it looks dark.

So my personal opinion of this device is say 4 out of 10

I wouldn't worry about the Audio. My £300 + BlackVue's audio is atrocious. I suspect they hard coded it (you can't turn down the audio sensitivity) to catch "outside noises" ie: sreetches, revving engines, verbal altercations (admitting liability) etc.

It is for the cars owner to identify the driver if the owner does not say who the driver was it is assumed that the owner was also the driver.
Also two wrongs don't make a Wright.

So, my SD cards should be here any day. Had a look at mounting the camera and wondered what/where people recommended to do this. I would prefer to leave the camera in position in the car as much as possible. There is a 12v kit I can get hold of specifically for my camera (Ring RBGDC200 and the kit is for plugging into the fuse box to creat an additional 12v socket RBGDCHK) which would allow easier hard wiring.

The car is a lease Merc A180 so would like to do as little modification as possible.

Do people mount the cameras lower, such as on the centre console of the dashboard?

cheers

A lot of fuseboxes are under the bonnet, with an extra fusebox behind the glovebox.

Which fusebox do you guys use and do you need to drill holes into the dash to allow the wire to go to the fusebox?

If I get a dashcam I want it to be as OEM looking as possible.

I used the fuse box in my glove box, the rest really depends on your car. I didn't need to drill any holes as i could route out the back/side of the glove box, up under some rubber that goes to the wind screen pillar, behind the plastic facade that goes up the pillar, and under the roof lining. Then out the middle at the top, with 5cm of wire hidden behind some blacked out print by the rear view mirror. This coupled with a small camera makes it difficult to see, even when you're told theres a dashcam there.

Should've gone for the 200, not as many features but it does the job for me and works well.
