Dashcams!

After reading some reviews on some models I see it's common for them to record in 5 minute loops so when the memory card is full the first 5 minutes is deleted and the process is repeated. What if i was to record an incident within that timeframe but it was unsafe for me to stop and then it gets deleted. Is ther any way to have continuous recording or do any models support this. I know this would be dependant on quality of video and the capacity of the memory card.

It won't be a problem as long as you are not running continuously for hours or using a small micro SD card. I would use 32gb minimum and they are cheap as chips now for a good class 10.

Doubt there is any dashcam that would do this as you need them in segments to be able to find quickly using the time stamp on the file. If you use VLC it will play the clips as a continuous video anyway.

I just bought 2 x 64GB cards for mine which should last me a good long while and only £12 each. You should be able to get good sized cards for cheap especially now in the sales

The idea is to have (at least) two SD cards so you can remove the one in the camera immediately after the incident and replace it just in case there's another incident on your way home.

Make sure you follow any specific instructions when removing/replacing the card, the last thing you want is for the latest clip that recorded the incident to go missing.

I've just hardwired my dashcam into my E46.

Took a couple of hours - was pretty easy though! What kind of power connector does the mobius use? My one uses a micro USB cable.

Which dashcam did you go for and how did you mount it?

I've got the Mobius one which is reasonably discrete, I wanted to get it mounted somewhere it'd be hidden away but still useful, due to the curvature of the E46' windscreen, it's quite difficult :p

It's got a Mini USB connector for power so I'll need to get a hardwire kit and route it through the A pillar and into the roof.

You could allways use the lens extension

Thanks for the suggestion, I've bought one of those but not received it yet, I'm thinking of sticking the Mobius on the back of the rear view mirror, and then popping the lens on the other side.

I've also just this moment discovered the Mobius Tools app for Android, you can plug an OTG cable into the camera and it'll show you what the lens is seeing so you can place the camera easily.

What are peoples thoughts on the "Dome D201" or are the 80X range the best ones to be looking at? As I have started to look into getting one fitted to my car.

Looks like a chunky bit of kit, apart from the suction mount is there another discreet way of mounting it?

That’s my initial thoughts, I was only looking at it due to the increased resolution. This was why i was looking at the device.

Ideally id like something really small and discrete which has excellent visual quality and from reading this thread seem like the 0805 / 0806 seems to be the ideal / most popular choice.

Caught this on my Mini 0805

I would say that you were equally acting like a douche there and gunning for an accident.

Not sure how interesting this is, but the silly bugger in this Fiat 500 didn't indicate on a roundabout and nearly got a UPS truck in their side.
Fiat had right of way regardless, the UPS driver is very clearly in the wrong here.

I have the Mini 0805. I used a fuse tap, going into a female cigarette part with two wires, then plugged in a USB adapter to the cigarette lighter and a 2m long Micro USB cable. Sounds complicated but was really very simple.
