Dashcams!

The DDpai looks very very good, the app also looks fully featured and I really like the park guard feature, it just does everything by itself and sits there.

The video quality looks very sharp as well, it's only 10Mbits odd for the bitrate, but daytime footage looks every bit as sharp and clear as my 0806 at 24Mbits. The audio also sounds very good, perhaps not as good as the 0806, but certainly very good.

I want one.

Do you think it's 10mbit because of the aspect ratio he is recording in?

Thinkware F770 has hit the UK shores! :)

Three things I immediately noticed different between the F750 and F770:

- Rear Camera is different to the F750 - If I recall correctly the lettering on the camera was upside down on the F750, Can be adjusted on the F770 and it looks like a complete re-design.

- Yaaay - A Black sticky pad instead of that nasty grey one they used to supply with the F750

- Theres a cover built into the main front camera unit ensuring the connectors are out of sight - quite slick!

It weighs a lot less and is smaller than the F750 too :) Looking forward to Saturday install - unfortunately can't test till then as it only came with a hard wired cable and no ciggie lighter connector.

Nice one!! Looking forward to your (hopefully) incoming mini-review! :D

Went away for a week and left my car at the airport with my Vantrue N1 plugged in and recording

Didn't know what to expect when I got back, maybe molten plastic on my dash or flat battery.

After 7 days it was still recording and the car started

Bored waiting on install:

Had to mount it slightly to the left as the auto-wiper sensor cover was getting in the way :(

Wired straight into fuse box - no need for additional fuses etc:

Will get some pics once the chaps finished. Thankfully from a drivers perspective it's hidden behind the rear-view mirror. Was easier to install in the CC than the Volvo - with the volvo we had to remove the rubber sealing around all the doors - with the CC all the cabling just slots into the rubber sills without having to remove them.

Hate coming to this garage! SSC in hudds - always makes me feel inadequate when i've got the crappest car there lol!

Currently drooling over this:

Daren't go upstairs into the showroom - ferraris galor :'(

Front:

Rear through the tinted screen:

Still fiddling with settings and such yet - need to try out parking mode hopefully overnight to see if the pic quality has improved.
Rear camera was auto switching to "super night mode" and was all sort of 'green' whilst it was inside the garage so looks promising.

F770 doesn't 'talk' as much as the F750 - trying to figure out speed camera alerts which used to have options for informing me x amounts of yards before the camera - experienced a gazillion and one beeps on the way home - need to figure out what they all mean lol.

Which one would people recommend?

Best value front facing? Do you need night vision because you'll have headlights on?

Best value front/rear one? Although rear screen is plastic as cabriolet so probably not the clearest even when not dirty.

One thing to remember that if you are mounting a rear one, and if you have rear wipers, mount it within the swipe of the wipers. Otherwise on a rainy day, the rear camera is not going to see much after a few miles.

I think the F770 is a great combo, the price isn't that bad either if you consider its features and you get 2 cameras for the price. I mean my single front camera (DOD LS470+) is £200 alone.

Going be ordering mine soon. Would like it now but Ive just started a new job so if the price is staying at £249 I may wait until the start of August...

Darn it - I typed out a huge mini-review and the site bombed out - screw that, not going through that all again lol!

To summarise:

- Installation was not as expected with the unit having to be mounted lower and further to the right than planned - no bother though - it still captures the whole road. I'm not 100% certain about the wide angle lens though - it seems not as wide as the F750 but then again I do have a wider car than before. Doesn't help the VW CC has a low roof either with massive pillars so the angle of the screen is quite steep.

- Settings wise its all the same as the F750 in the app other than additional tab for 'motion picture' as its called (Time lapse mode).

- It feels a lot more sensitive to bumps etc than the F750 - but then again I had a different car. Simply opening and closing the doors at anything other than minimum sensitivity levels triggers an 'event' lol.

- Battery monitor is set to 11.6V for an oil-burner as recommended by the garage.

- Disabled all the Lane Departure and Front Collision stuff as there were too many beeps and bops which will just confuse the simple minded missus lol.

More pics - pretty happy with the install so far:

Any questions or stuff to try out, please feel free to ask.

Don't think so. I use the same aspect ratio. Just probably a better implementation/algorithm used I guess for that bitrate. The 0806 gets a bit blocky with fast moevemtn scenes like green foliage with the stock bitrate. No issue with the 24Mbit bitrate though, so clearly it's codec settings.

How is your 0806 at night. The 0903 is shocking...

Need to get one of these. Do SSC in Hudds do a complete install? I'm in Hudds too.

Yeah they do bud. Its a mate of mine who has an office and workshop in there, downstairs from the main showroom (it used to be the old Peugot garage).

Its a separate company called Automotive Gadgets. Hit me with some trust bud and I'll sort you a deal out with him. He's very good, usually does stuff like LED/Xenon headlight conversions etc - very experienced and well equipped - unlike me and my £5 screw driver set lol :)
