Dashcams!

Since February I've been using a NextBase 402G Professional dashcam which you can purchase from Costco or Halfords for ~£100. It's been great (though don't leave it in your car on a scorching day... it can kill the battery. Pretty much applies to any other battery-powered device I guess.). I can't recommend dash cams enough in general... a great thing to have.

I have a YouTube channel where I upload some of the "dodgy" footage I catch. Click here to see it if you're interested! I should have another batch going up some time soon.

Some thoughts after 1 year of owning a mini 0806

-Video quality is acceptable not the greatest but works in my opinion.
-No hardware build issues like loose contact from the power points etc. At least in mine.
-Had an issue where the dashcam would not turn off and stuck on a continues beeping. Reflashing the firmware seems to have solved this.
-Battery is pretty useless. Will not even hold charge for 1min nowadays
-GPS acquisition takes a while from start up. Not really an issue for me.
-I really thought it would not last a year but here it is still functioning.
-Never used their support. I dont think they have a customer support to be honest.

Things I wish I knew before buying this first dashcam
-Capacitor. I only use the dashcam during driving and the battery really took a hit. Initially it was holding charge good for 10mins but now its dead before a 1min hits.
-Better crimping tools. Mine just plain sucked :D

So the F770 is in and wired up, But the "continuous recording" files are between 30s and 1m in length , Any way to get it to not make so many small files?

I don't see the issue with this bud - I prefer the smaller files as it breaks the picture up so I can quickly get to the footage I need.

I'm assuming they've done this also so you can quickly download the footage you want (can you imagine how long it would take to transfer a 60minute file v's a 1min file?)

On another line - My dashcam paid off when someone ran straight into the back of us whilst stationary at temporary lights last week. Git tried to claim he was only doing 5 mile an hour, he's lucky I didn't deck him - hurt both my daughter and missus (who was driving at the time). my car took a good bashing but came out mainly unscathed (slight cracked bumper slip at the bottom) - not bad bearing in mind he was in a Range Rover!. Both me and son came away without any injuries. Currently having fun dealing with all the organisations that get involved in a claim like wtf! Was told to keep a hold of the footage in case he claims it wasn't his fault.

REALLY surprised how well the footage came out bearing in mind it was pee-ing it down and night time. ESPECIALLY the rear cam - it caught him and his number plate even through the glass covered in rain (no rear-screen wiper as its a coupe). It's actually a good job screen reflections are shown on the rear cam as it shows our brake lights clearly being on at the time of the incident.

I'm just wanting to increase it to 5-6 minutes per clip at least, smallest was 15s

Other than that how you finding it bud? After showing footage of our recent accident to colleagues and friends they were really impressed how clear it was and want one too now! :)

Finding it pretty good, Struggled to get it in the right place on the windscreen because of the light sensing/rain sensing housing, and the wiper sweep.

Still not 100% Happy with where it is, but does the job.

The only reason i'd want it longer is to be able to review an entire journey.

When you see clips on youtube, are they loads stitched together then?

It's not really a massive issue though is it? You can just get an app to stitch them all together if you want a full hours worth of footage or tell your media player to just continue to the next file? I can see why they are short clips (60 seconds), it's because it would take too long to download a 1 hour clip if you're doing it over wireless.

For your comment about some clips only being 15 seconds long, I would guess taht the shock sensor went off and the rest of the footage is under that section rather than the continuous mode.
