Dashcams!

That is understandable but it also takes a good five minutes or so at the start of every journey to start recording again.
Yeah mines not hard wired it’s just plugged into cigarette lighter socket. Takes about 10 seconds to start recording at the start of every journey. I only have a front dash cam as I have a soft top.

Yeah, thinking of just going back to the accessory socket so it starts quicker. Parking cover was nice but only cover front anyway. Doorcam covers the driveway at home now.

I suspect it is related to using the OBD kit on the new van,

My dashcam is powered through the OBD and powers on shortly after I start the car. Perhaps 5 - 15 seconds. Which OBD cable do you use? I use a Rearmaster.

I do recommend one that records you as well. See the video I posted upthread about a scammy American cop trying to claim that the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The other issue that prevents is someone claiming you were on your phone.

Anyone tried the 70mai A810S? Some of the cameras on market are quite chunky. I have a 622GW so a nice size, but obviously things have progressed with night quality and STARVIS2 optics.

@Quartz It is the Redtiger OBD cable they specified for that model camera. They do another one which is model specific for some reason. I planned on getting the hardwire kit but couldn't find definitive info on which fuses were safe to use in the new model Crafter and didn't want to mess around and risk buggering something up.

I will investigate a bit more at a later date but it works on the road once it fires up and I have the cabling hidden enough, while still being easy to remove if necessary.

The auto electrician I used to install my dashcam did a great job of hiding the cable along the headliner and behind plastic trim which he had to remove and fit back. Then he cable tied it all the way to the centre console where the cigarette lighter socket is.

He charges £84 an hour including tax, and that is what I paid.

Finally got around to fitting my dashcam today (Miofive S1), and the seemingly incredibly useful usb-c port above the rear view mirror doesn’t deliver enough power to the dashcam…seems to be a common issue grrr

So options are, run a long cable and try and hide it; pay someone to do it properly; buy a £5.99 step down transformer that’s pre attached to a usb-c port that I attach to the wiring loom hidden in the housing above the rear view mirror

Anyone done the last option? I suppose I could always junk the cam and try and buy a less power hungry one

God knows why they deliberately choose to underpower the port. Who on earth is going to plug a phone in up there?

Yeah my car has one usb-a port which can't power my camera but I'm using it with a Motorola MA1 wireless Android Auto dongle anyway. I'm not sure you need a less power hungry camera, it might be just the way it is. In terms of whether to pay someone to do it, depends on how comfortable you are taking trim off and running cables.

It cost me £84 to have a professional auto electrician install it, which was worth every penny to me.

So my Nextbase 522GW is currently recording only a blackscreen (Screensaver off) after it was constantly beeping the other day on startup. Anyone else had this problem with the unit?

Anyone recommend a decent replacement that is reasonably priced around £100-£150 range?

I have two 12v connectors in the new motor, front and rear. So instead of running cable back to the 622GW up front for the 1080p rear addon; I picked up the Piqo 2K camera instead. Not fitted yet but so far I'm liking what I see. Great small form factor. The 12v adapter is also a lot more compact which is great. It paired with the Nextbase app really quickly. Firmware update went well, no glitches. I'm installing it this weekend but I can't see there being any issues with the recording quality as it is Nextbase. I got the cam and bundled 32GB card from Costco for £89.99! Maybes have a look into that one?

Have you fitted yours yet? I've seen these go for £80 on ebay for the 2k version which is similar to my old 522GW except theres no screen

definition looks good - need a nightime video .... but where is the gratuitous shots of the coast/beach.
I've uploaded some dark early morning footage for you. At the start of this video the sea is to the left. A bit grainy and not as good as daytime but OK...

Hi All
Anyone have any experience with the wolfbox dashcams, the x5 or x3 in particular ?
toying between that and the viofo a229 plus or Pro.
I see they have also just released the a229 ultra.
Ideally looking for a decent 4k front and minimum 2k rear with good night/day vision (licence plate capture so 60fps ?) and also parking mode,
