Dawn of War II Beta Thread

Less Armies... Vanilla DoW had 4, give this 3 expansions and see how its doing.

Less Units... There are pretty much as many as vanilla DoW, you have to be a certain hero to gain access to certain types and there is the same specialization just now less variation.

Less Options... Wargear...

Less Units on Screen... they made it clear from the very first information outing on this that it would be small scale and tactical, you've had a year to come to terms with this.

Less Maps... uh, you mean from the 5 in the beta? there will be more on release.

Less Game Modes... Victory points are all you need, the game needs balancing slightly as atm its decided in the first 5 minutes, whoever is forced to retreat their starting units in the first encounter gives up the map and loses, but the game mode itself is fine.

Less Combat Animations... you serious? the main limitation of the engine DoW used was the animations, Essence engine gives units thousands of animations.

No Base Building... Again, announced a year ago where they were taking the game, plus it works well without... if you're into lining up buildings in a pretty order or chopping down trees theres plenty of other games to cater.

Yeah what he said!

Because a weapon that costs ~270 rec, that has high damage, can supress a whole infantry army that has no setup time (and therefore no positional firing arc) would be completely imbalanced? You wouldn't be able to flank it!

Well then why not change the cost? It just feels like they've tried to paste the units into the company of heroes mould because that what they know how to do. Come to think of it Space marines don't have to set up heavy weapons either, they're strong enough to fire them from the hip (or shoulder)

Already on Rank 4 after about 12 games :cool:

I hope they support this game like they did with COH. DOW2's online interface is pretty terrible atm.

Thats not really fair, are you implying that the game is flawless?
This thread is about feedback whether that be positive or negative, just because someone is critical of the game doesn't mean their opinion is any less significant .

Eh? - just said that it is not as good as CoH -now that game is flawless :D.

Not saying there opinion is any less significant, however when something is the way it is then complaints can only go so far. Surely you have to at some point just accept the way it is. Sure make you opinion known however and argue the point, but let it drop and walk away at some point. I am sure that Relic is listening (not on this forum though) and will put feedback that fits into their game with updates and expansions.

People have made it known that the game is not what they expect, I respect that, however it is not gonna change the end product at this stage. I know that the game is not perfect - they have effective killed the annialate mode by making the bases stupidly tough - the game is over when some one parks their army outside it shelling it but they are there for 5 mins doing it and there is nothing the opposing side can do about it apart from watch - yawn. However I think people will just play that mode less and hopefully relic will up date.

So no - game is not flawless and I will miss reinforcing points and building turrets. If you want the best of both worlds - buy CoH and spam rangers

Did I mention that CoH is good? :D

CoH = Company of Heroes.

DoW2 is the closest thing to CoH reskinned.

Buy it - you will be fine. You will be fine.

That is a fair enough comment - I guess just a game mechanic I suppose then.

Think it is just for the beta - should be better for release. I hope that the interface is not to much like CoH online interface. Well maybe not the interface, just the matching - get so many can't connects, game list not refreshing etc etc.

I just hope they remove the ability to drop hack - annoys everytime. :mad:

No new armies mate - just new coop, campaign modes, and some new units to use in MP mode - and they have to be swapped out for existing ones.

Should be interesting and a must buy as it is CoH. however I wish they had done more.

No new armies? :eek:

Ah well, as long as they deal with the patching system I'll get it.

Oh Mr Kebab! They've had to make a PC game. It cant be a mirror image of the tabletop game you played all those years ago! Relax!

PS. They have to log into the grav platform controls through Sussed.;)

Those of you still hoping to get the pre-order content should get a wiggle on, the online retailers are selling out quickly; got this e-mail today:

As we are sure you are aware by preordering Dawn of War II from ****.co.uk you will not just receive the game, you will also receive the following **** Exclusive content.

* "Armour of the Destroyer"
* "Purge of Victory Bay" Heavy Bolter
* "Unerring Thunderbolt" Missile Launcher
* One unique chapter: "Novamarines"
* Four exclusive metallic colours

Dawn of War II has proven so popular that we have now exceeded the quantity of codes that we had for the standard edition so the offer is going to be removed from ****.co.uk.

You will of course still be receiving your in-game content as planned, via a code emailed to you on the day of release.

Once again thank you for preordering from ****.co.uk and we hope you enjoy Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II.

Doesn't look like the STEAM version offers any extra content at all, and is atleast £10 more than anywhere else :/

lol, they should randomly shoot their allies in frustration then :p

I accept it's never going to be a perfect recreation, nor should it be. I love the style of gameplay in DoW 1 and I enjoy the style of gameplay in DoW2, but I just can't see a reason why they can't mirror the units more accurately, not to mention include more of them. Especially for Eldar, the whole point in aspect warriors is to reflect different aspects of war, seems ridiculous if they aren't all available (we have less than half of them in DoW2) Several times I've charged in my Howling banshees against assault marines and had them torn apart and wished I had Striking Scorpions because their thicker armour and mandiblasters would have been perfect against space marines.

After playing since the worldwide release I have one criticism of this game:

Avatars.

Every game i've played in which one of these has appeared has ended in me having a sore bum. I understand they take a lot of time and resources to produce but in a 3v3 game 1 avatar wiped out our frontline, and then was able to cut down any re-enforcements with minimal detriment to its heath. A lot of the stronger units (i.e. Dreads) can be beaten with the right units, however unless i'm missing something there is no definitive way to take an Avatar down (bar another Avatar).

Feels like they've held a lot back for add-ons/DLC.

I've noticed this too. I'm not against DLC but it seems like you'll pay £20-30 for the game, and then another 20 odd to make it a FULL game which is a bit rubbish really.

I don't think avatars are too bad, they are pretty vulnerable to mass gunfire. But i do think they should be limited to one per battle. At the moment if one is killed you can just churn out another.
