***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Yeah, same lawyers, PR firms, secretive developers... Looks like theyre trying again! If it is them, then you have to suspect the reason theyre hiding is not because they doubt the quality of their game - who knows, it might even be competent - but because they want to do the whole monetisation thing again and pull in as much cash as possible.

Happier to wait for Dayz SA.

I have just ONE great hope for standalone...no private hives.

The amount of time I have spent trying to find decent servers to play on (because it seems there are no public hives anymore), then spending many hours amassing gear and putting it in tents around the map, only to get banned for "hacking" because I killed the admin too many times, or in other scenarios the admin always turning up at my tents and robbing it and killing me whilst I am there (admin map much?), or going up against a squad that gets given "special priviliges" (ie, free gear via database) etc. It is annoying.

They gave people too much control in a game where it is hard to survive already.

One server I played on, I wasn't online but my group was and the admin gave one of his clan members an Apache for him and another to use, in Chernarus, a long with all the camp locations. When he was done killing everyone, the group found the helicopter but were told by the admins that they had to blow it up or face a ban.

None of this with public hives!

Me and a friend used to play on one that was good.

We got told at one point we should destroy some of our vehicles because it wasn't fair that we owned 90% of them. We told the admin that we worked for them and the spawns were public knowledge (online map) so it's hardly unfair. They then agreed and let us carry on.

We eventually got driven off the server when hackers found it mind, was unbelievable fun till then. Probably the best fun I've ever had playing video games.

I remember chasing a URAL? down the coast in a UAZ with two other guys in their own UAZs/pickup. All the while screaming at him to pull over on local chat while running over new spawns. Nobody had a clue what was going on.

We used to roll around in 4 vehicles. convoy of two pickups and two UAZs just shooting anyone we could. People soon learned to stay away from roads.

Indeed!

Lets be pro-active, can steam be VPN'd?

Its only going to be launched as an alpha so there wouldnt be the 'UK Release' Friday attached to it. Lots of PC only games release on other days.
