***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Damaged food, using anything medical that isn't pristine, and drinking water that hasn't been purified has a % chance of causing sickness/disease. I don't know if this has actually been implemented in the game yet or not though.

It's sad isn't it that you feel ultraparanoid about other players with/out weapons obviously there!

The game is in Alpha. it even says this on the store page, did you somehow miss that or just ignore it?

So a game that's had 2 years in development by an official studio using existing assets from 5 years ago being in worse state than mods made by a few guys in their spare time between jobs is acceptable then. Honestly people need to stop playing the alpha card, it's a very poor excuse. The store page should say 'we couldn't be arsed to do anything so here's 2 weeks worth of work that we'll finish when we can be bothered, we know you're all going to buy it either way, but here's a generic disclaimer for the fanboys to use.'

Not to say I haven't enjoyed it thus far but it's definitely a cash in, they realised they hadn't done **** all in the past 2 years and also realised the DayZ boat has almost gone out to sea so they took a big dump on all of our heads to avoid losing $$$ when something undeniably better comes about, and by then they have our money anyway.

Dean slipped up, he said in an interview that he'd consider DayZ a success if it sold 250k units or more, yet it's in Alpha purely for hardcore players to test? He's specificly done nothing to market it blah blah? Shouldn't even be talking about that kind of stuff while a game is bare-bones Alpha.

Our only hope is that $20,000,000 might of put their arses into gear, but in two years time I wouldn't be surprised if the game has progressed as much as it had since the mod released up until the standalone came out last month.

Truth be told, you don't know what is going on behind the scenes. You also don't know the revenue that the devs get for this - i'd imagine Steam greenlighting a product is a huge risk for Steam too, and such, they'll take a big cut.

Yes I did clearly see it. How long has he had to make this game though, you would think the amount of time which has been spent making this it should be further along then it is.

It's barebones at most, more like a shell of a game. Just something seems wrong when small mod teams can improve the mod quickly and efficiently while he keeps faffing about with this.

My issue isn't with that it's an alpha my issue is it is nowhere into development that I thought it would be and going by Deans statements doesn't look like it will be any time soon.

I'm not defending how much content exists, but to buy a game labelled as an alpha expecting it to be further along than the mod seems a little silly does it not. If it had more than the Mod I would expect it to be in beta but probably full release.

One of the things I hated about the mod was how awful the inventory was and just felt really clunky and horrible to use. The inventory is much better now so to me that is an improvement.

Doubt it's risky, look at some of the trash they allow through Steam, they no QA so it's doubtful they see anything as a risk. It's never been confirmed mind but the accepted chunk that Steam take is 25% or so 15 mill. :p

True but it still isn't 2 years work is it, it's still in worse shape than Rust/Dead Linger/WarZ/7DTD despite way more time, bigger team and bigger budget. Best not press on this subject any longer though, I respect your opinion but I don't want enrage the fangirls. DayZ does a special kind of thing to some peoples brains. :p

One thing I'll definitely agree with, went back to ARMA 2 as that DayZ is better but it wasn't worth the inventory system that game has, it's abysmal.

Plus by that time I doubt many will care and will have moved onto the next thing.

My freinds are all playing but i don't fancy forking out £20 to play if i don't end up liking it wanna try first really.

Buy an Arma 2 OA key from steam, use Arma 2 free ( OA is an expansion) and then try the mod, thats as close to a trial as you can get

I've played a few hours in the last few days and surprisingly everyone I've bumped into has been friendly, all of them fully kitted up too.

I'm kitted up with an AR but I don't know how to put the scopes I have onto the gun, any ideas?

Cheers to Link off here for helping the other night.

What exactly does 'sandbox' refer to in gaming terms? I have always assumed it an anology to a sandpit that you can build anything from like a sand castle. Am I right?

Basically yeah.

So like zombie apoc survival, build own bases/towns, deserted towns, salvage for materials etc.

Just found this:

Drag and drop the scope onto the rifle in your inventory. I think all scopes are compatible with the 2 rifles ingame (but I may be wrong, as I haven't found another Mosin for a while).

Press TAB then literally just drag them onto the gun same to move them. Example on my Mosoin I have the close range and long range scope. I switch between scopes as i change range simply by pressing TAB and dragging the scop e to the gun.... Same for ammo ti quickly chamber or add a mag drag it to the gun.

Sadly not, the scopes are weapon specific.

Mosin: Long Range Scope & PU Scope (Not a very good scope).
M4: 2 Red Dots, Acog and a few Iron Sights

The ATLAS Bipod however IS compatible with both. There is also the Flashlight & Suppressor which are M4 only. Both guns also have a specific Bayonet which don't do anything at the moment.
