***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Anyone pleased with the SA must be either have not played the MOD or be retarded because it is so far behind & we should expect more considering we have paid.

Blah blah Alpha Alpha blah blah, I expect more, that is all.

I have played the mod so that must make me a retard? Sounds like a personal attack to be honest.

At any rate, we get that you don't like the game and you feel you have wasted your money, but honestly the game isnt finished. You did after all see the message on steam regarding the state of the game, should have done some research instead of crying so much in here. Come back when / if its been released or atleast when its moved to beta and complain then. If you want to shoot your load over the mod then go post in the mod thread. Its boring reading the same few people just repeating post after post.

Also in b4 the "fanboy" comments.

Fanboy! :p

I don't get how people are making the jump from someone not approving of how their team are going about things to "We get it, you HATE the game"... I don't hate DayZ at all, I'd never have come in the thread in the first place if I did... People just can't take anything about this game or the team behind it being criticised in any way - it is okay for people to not like something that you love so much you wasted money on you know

Also I love Spills trying to tell me that I clearly haven't worked on high-end software... If my understanding of this is so "hilarious" then perhaps you'd like to qualify that with any kind of explanation? I certainly don't see you offering any insights or defences into what they are doing right from a development standpoint, other than "They said they were doing something so they must be"

Just don't rise to it to be honest, it's how threads get locked and people get suspended - it's the internet, people will always disagree!

I thoroughly enjoyed the mod, and I have been enjoying the standalone. I understand the points you put across, and they all do have merit, despite what some people seem to think.

As it stands, the project team assigned to the development of SA don't seem the best bunch of developers I've seen, but I think it's more down to the awkwardness of the Real Virtuality 3 engine and Rockets arrogance that he has to give every single detail the okay before it can be worked on or implemented. Given enough time, I have no doubt that this will become a very good game; but the speed at which the development is progressing I think the DayZ ship will have sailed and they will have lost a lot of their active user-base.

Giving a year as an estimate to go from an alpha stage to a beta stage, on something that has already got the foundations well and truly set, is a little worrisome. Granted, Rocket's idea of a beta is probably far from my own, but then again his idea of an alpha isn't exactly aligned with mine either!

Give it time and the game will get there. £20 now or £20 in the future doesn't matter, it's still money at the end of the day so purchasing now makes no difference to be honest!

Had a good session last night on our server.

Had been over on the west side in Myshkino and went to meet up with some buddies around Stary/Novy Sobor, then pushed on up to Dubrovka. Just after passing through Dubrovka the server restarted and a couple of buddies had to log off just as we reached the outskirts of Krasnostav in the north east. We decided that we'd check out the BNN airstrip and here's were the fun started.

We scouted from range the control tower and hangars and spotted at least one person milling around, so I moved into the doorway of the gate entrance building. Just as I did, another player moved towards the 2 story building opposite, with the jail cell so I followed him in.
As he opened the cell door I politely held him up :D

Got him in the corner and searched his gear.He had a fire-axe,full back pack of food and drink, medi-kit and a pistol with ammo and did as I said. Luckily I had my buddy watching the door so I knew if someone was heading my way while holding this guy up.

After picking through his gear I let him on his way. He didn't have much left after dropping it and I'm not a bandit who'll kill on sight unless in the doo-doo situation... which is what happened next :D

The 1st guy waved goodbye (yeah he did say thankyou) as I'd not just killed him and I went back to feasting on the contents of his backpack. I asked my buddy if he wanted to grab any gear in here too as there was stuff lying around that I didn't need, that he might use. So he made his way to me.

I closed the doors until he arrived and waited, scoped in at the door with my M4, waiting for any reprisals from the 1st guy, or his buddies as we knew other people were around the airstrip too. My caution paid off.

Doors swung open and in walked a kitted out guy (gas mask, tactical helmet, M4) wielding a fire-axe. I dropped him on the steps in a hail of bullets and his corpse lay there unmoving.

It might have seemed a dick move to kill him without talking but after the hold up of the other guy I wasn't taking any chances. Strangely though, the guy I'd just killed was carrying an M4, but only had his axe to hand so either he'd been killing Zeds on the way or his M4 was out of ammo.

I closed the doors and waited again for my buddy to arrive as he'd held off after I killed the gas-mask guy.

I waited again, with the doors shut for my buddy to approach. Opened the doors as he neared and waited, scoped on doorway again, tucked in against the rear wall. Then I heard movement behind me, the other side of the wall...

My buddy dashed in and we closed the door, all the time I was scoped on the door while he rummaged through all the gear and equipment left by the holdup guy and loot spawns. Unfortunately gas mask dudes body was too far away and on the bottom step to be able to loot him safely, so we had to leave him be.

Now we were in a dilemna. We're kitted up, stocked up on food and drink and waiting to leave the building. We could have logged out, but that's just crappy, so we decided on a "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" style run from the building, knowing that there's probably hostiles waiting for us, somewhere.

I popped the doors & sprinted for the gateway that we'd come through. My buddy followed a few steps later... I made the gateway, when all hell broke lose. Shots were fired, my buddy dropped and the gunfire headed my way, but I kept sprinting and weaving... puffs of dust were kicking up ahead and around me from the shots. I didn't stop until I hit the trees near Krasnostav.

That's DayZ for me at the moment. :D

I feel the performance boost i have personally experienced is alone enough of a reason to make the move from mod/epoch (which is what i played the most) to stand alone. I can now move through Cherno with more than 10 fps and that makes a massive difference. My computer is old and I am currently getting the parts together for my new one, but nevertheless for some of us here that is enough of a reason to look past some of the problems and, or missing content.

I am a fan of the game, but not utterly blind to the problems and frustratingly long dev cycle. I want cars, mod options, and taviana. It is also frustrating that the zombies are mostly threatless and have a usually low population count.

funny story

This is really what its all about .... and i would imagine why most of us put up with the parts that are annoying. I might have a night were nothing really happens, or i might have a night where im involved in tense firefights, killing or dieing, trying to hook up with friends. Its a great experience.

Ok sweetcheeks lets hear these large projects and your roles on them, maybe you can shut up then and let the people who have actually purchased the game discuss it.
I do love this place and when it gets hot the first reply is always "I work in software , you don't know what your unabout" ?
Really your on one of the UK's largest Nerd sites and you believe your the only one here who has worked in software.

You seem like you have plenty of time on your hands and love to tell other people how there idiots and your much better than them in every shape and form. So lets hear all these great story of how you created some life changing software. If you was in Deans position how would you do it different...

You are getting boring mind a thread with hundreds of people in it and page after page the same two people whinging about Dean ripping us off for £20.

Hey its a small price and if it helps feed a few devs and there familys Im all for it. Ea and there shareholders have milked me enough times. With half hearted crap. Least Dayz seems like its got a bit of passion and love in there. Im up for supporting teh small guy.

No need for childish name-calling is there? If you must know (and you brought it up not me) I work and have worked for large organisations who develop all sorts of specialised and high-profile software, I've been on teams of developers (and led teams of developers) working on contracts worth 6 figure sums (at least) and worked on systems teams that act as the point of approval and rejection for the code produced by the rest of an organisation consisting of hundreds of other programmers...

So yes, I do know what I'm talking about (and there are at least some others posting here who clearly do as well), but again you seem to be misconstruing my criticisms of the developer of this game as me trying to tell others they don't know anything... In fact it was you who originally said:

you clearly haven't [worked in software,] not a high end title anyway as your understanding of all this is hilarious

You seem like you have plenty of time on your hands and love to tell other people how there idiots and your much better than them in every shape and form. So lets hear all these great story of how you created some life changing software.

See above... it seems to me like you're the one trying to put me down more than anything... I've criticised the game and defended myself at what you have said to me, but I don't think I've been unfair towards anyone.

If you was in Deans position how would you do it different...

Are you really telling me to shut up and then inviting me to describe what would be (trust me) a hugely long-winded list of things I'd do differently? Especially when I've already suggested many aspects of what Dean is doing that I would do another way... Just go read the earlier posts if you want that

You are getting boring mind a thread with hundreds of people in it and page after page the same two people whinging about Dean ripping us off for £20

You paid to be part of the development... you paid for entry into an alpha... I don't understand what you were expecting discussion of the game to involve? Is nobody allowed to talk about the way the development is happening? Can we mention bugs? Please tell us what we have your permission to discuss

Q. Why do most threads on OcUK turn into a ****ing contest or a flame war?

A. The OcUK members.

There's ways to put across viewpoints and criticism and there's ways to counter viewpoints and criticism.... just seems so often that people don't know how to do either in an adult or mature way as it devolves into a tit-for-tat argument between a few people.
"You know nothing", "I've done this & that so my viewpoint is more valid than yours" crap time & time again.... yadda-yadda-yadda.

Express your concerns, views & opinions but at least respect others that have differing views to your own so at least the thread topic remains the focus, not the individuals making them.

Can we drawn a line under this....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd love to (draw a line under this)... but you'd have to ask Spils really as he is the one that doesn't seem to be able to handle people criticising the developers (as well as a few others in here)... I don't intend to stop posting my opinion where I see fit, and I don't believe I am or have been doing it in an unfair way

Impending update;

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165709-pending-changelog-experimental-branch-031114343/

Branch: Experimental

ETA: Monday 20 January 2014, AM

Description:

This build is being tested on experimental branch, and contains a number of fixes and changes that have been in preparation for the last two weeks. Please note that we do not expect that this build will be quickly posted to stable branch as we anticipate at least one more update will occur to Experimental prior to being pushed to stable. Only a limited number of servers will be running this version, so be aware slots may be limited. Once we have confirmed this build is functioning correctly we will announce more information about the release to stable branch.

What are experimental/stable branches?
In your steam application settings, you can choose a "beta branch". This allows you to opt in to our experimental branch to try it out.

Does my saved character get affected in experimental branch?
No. It runs on a different database, so any changes will not affect your character on stable branch.

I can't find a slot while on experimental branch!
Only a small number of servers run this branch. You will need to change your game back to the stable branch and play on a normal server

Can I join a stable branch server wil experimental branch client?
No, you would need to change your client back to stable.

When will this be in stable?
We expect stable to be updated before the end of that week (by Friday 24 January 2014).

Underwhelming update tbh, kinda hard to get hyped for standalone when breaking point for arma 3 utterly destroys it and gets updated every other day with new features and fixes.
