***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Just spotted on Dean's twitter that the cause of the FPS Drops / Lag has been successfully patched on the experimental branch and will be heading to the stable branch as part of the usual Wednesday scheduled maintenance.

In the mean time, don't do too much inventory tetris, or put stuff in protective cases as that seems to be the main cause of the flickering / matt texture item issues that causes the problem.

Ah well logged in 10 mins ago and im now stuck in the middle of the ocean.
First time i ever had this, game seems worse now than was before patches.
Anybody know how to fix or is it better for me to just uninstall and come back in 6 months?

I've heard about that in the mod, but never the standalone. Hacker maybe?

Try a few different servers if you haven't already, baring in mind Regular and Hardcore are different characters.

If the character is worth saving, just point him/her towards land and put something on the W key after double tapping it, then do something else.

My char was not saved on the server and reset apparently, an admin has been notified...wtf.

Ah well thats Dayz for you...POS.

This was on a hardcore server, all is not lost as i have a char on a regular server with mosin and long range scope which ive had for about 2 months.

its alpha you don't get attached to your character. the sea is just a spawn issue maybe try logging in a different server. did you log off correctly ? were you on hardcore then login regular ? there are different servers .

try experimental server if you want see how your fps is .

i lost 5 fps during bug thats it. big towns i went to 25fps . instead of 30 fps. fixed tomorrow so just a small issue.

Hmm,

I wonder if this is going to fix the issue I am currently having, I seem to be getting graphical lag/slow down that affects mouse movement,

I've only seen one other person on the dayz subreddit mention the problem I have though It may be linked to this bugged loot/fps issue.

If it's not fixed for with this patch then I might have to just kill my character and hopefully that resolves it :(

Can you link me please? By bug do you mean the insane FPS drops in Cherno for no apparent reason? Would this improve overall performance too?

No that is something completely different, most likely down to poor optimization which will be one of the last things sorted I suspect. You can test this in town with something like FRAPs, go up to a building, face away from it looking at the greenery only, note your FPS. Then turn and face the building and your FPS will drop.

As for the FPS bug, this issue as far as I understand it: certain actions (like moving things around in your inventory or putting them in protective cases) causes the items to render incorrectly. They either flicker and/or the textures go a single matt base colour. This issue seems to cause a memory leak and VRam starts to fill up, as it does FPS drops dramatically, usually in fits and starts until it becomes very consistent. Once the VRam fills up completely, the game generally crashes.

Pre-patch the only way to sort it is to dump any and all flickering or improperly rendered items, do less inventory tetris and stop putting things in protective cases.

Small issue for you maybe, big issue for many other players. Doesn't sound like you've experienced the bug at all to be honest, or were very very lucky. For many it becomes borderline unplayable or the game just crashes outright once the VRam fills up.

I was playing with someone a couple of days ago and once it got so bad every 2 minutes or so FPS would drop to basically 0 for both of us. Thankfully we never got in a firefight or it would have been game over for both of us. I also played last night and some shotgun snap loaders I put in a protective case had matt textures and flickered, at one stage the VRam filled up and the game just crashed outright. Add that to the fact your character stays in game for 30 seconds after you logoff was almost a recipe for disaster.

The server crashed (lost connection from the server) so i logged back in an bang, i was in the middle of the ocean.

Alpha or not its annoying.

Also ive been getting almost unplayable stutter like other people, but fix is coming tomorrow so no big deal really.

have you got clouds disabled? this is a known cause for stuttering.

Most of the character wipe and other strange issues I've had, have been with non-official servers. Those hosted by clans and the like. I tend to find those hosted by gameservers.com, gamingdeluxe.com to be the less problematic.

Really? You don't say?!

I was simply trying to explain in a bit of detail for those who have not experienced the bug or are not aware of what it does and how it does it.

Ok thanks ill keep that in mind. Ive noticed many of the MPGOS servers in hardcore have all but disappeared.
I never had any problems on those.

Since day1

Never had the issue before it was only after installing the beta version of the update that brought the sawn off shottys etc,

Went back to stable build and since then its been playing up, even tried deleting configs etc it's still the same, which makes me think it might be a loot/character bug :(

Yeah, I never really noticed an FPS dip in cities in the 100 or so hours I've played of it. The only one I really noticed is when I was playing with 3 friends, we were at the port to the north east of Berezhino with all the shipping containers. We got rinsed by FPS issues and server lag too, we all suffered with 4-5 second complete stops.
