***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

normally your fps halves going in big cities.

most people who play dayz understand this and it doesn't bother them too much as they are used to it. 30 fps is fine for dayz.

guided two new players today complete new to dayz and helped gear them up  all three of us now geared to teeth time for bandit hunting :p

I know it does drop, my point was that it's not a noticeable amount for me to actually notice on my PC.

The drop depends very much on your setup to be honest. I had to laugh at a few guys in You Tube comments who were on about it, this one guy had 780Ti SLi and wondered why he never saw any drops lol.

I've got 2x overclocked 7950s, and an overclocked 3930K, so I'm not surprised I've not noticed it much myself.

I haven't looked up whether multi-GPU works in DayZ though.

I had to do a SLi fix to get it to work with my 670s, no idea about Crossfire though. Run something that shows GPU usage and you'll soon see.

What resolution are you using?

Indeed, he also had a high end hex core i7. I really hope they have some sort of breakthrough with optimization, there are so many performance issues with the slightly flawed engine that I'd be surprised if it improves significantly otherwise.

This was one of the main reasons for SA, rip out A2 so it will play like a dream. Although we can't really judge this until it hits retail but I get the feeling it will be more demanding then A2 which the whole point of SA was to avoid that. It will get over looked though and accepted by the fanboys.

In the mod it was acceptable, because it was a mod.

If the standalone has fps issues and clipping through wall issues then it is not acceptable because it is a game people have paid for. You wouldn't buy Tomb Raider and be happy with glitch's all the time, the same will be said for DayZ when it hits full retail.

fps has gone up apart from last patch which gave this bug. fps went up upto ten fps which is a lot especially on minimums and in this sort of time frame that's great.

patch tomorrow will make it as before and its earlier in the project. i think well probably get another 10 fps yet.

zombies and bodies going through walls will be solved at some point but remember you are playing a working ALPHA. you should not compare it with the mod now as it has a new skeleton done so once tweaked all that will vanish.

I have a 690 on water and volt modded running at 1241mhz 24/7. I have everything on low and i stil get 50fps average, game is badly optimized and people are forgetting its the Arma engine which aint great at the best of times.

Couldn't agree more :p

I probably qualify for the category of fanboy so here is my tuppence worth.

I expect more from the finished product. Much more. With the hours I have invested in arma and dayz, I know only too well the limitations and quirks with the current engine. Outside of towns, cities and large structures, the game is a masterpiece, both visually and in terms of performance. Anywhere else and we all know how that goes.

When you look at arma 3 you can see the same behavior, albeit slightly less aggressive. If it is still present in Arma 3 at this stage of its life, it speaks volumes for the future of dayz on an older version of a similar engine.

Dean is working alongside the people who created and designed the engine and map, they have seriously gotta work on a genuine solution to this in my opinion. With the sales figures they have achieved, they have gotta have the resources to invest in a solution.

The longer the alpha and beta stages continue, the more this issue will arise. I love the game and bohemia in general so i still hold onto a bit of hope that they will one day sort it out, not holding my breath though.

Had an amazing time with this game tonight! Shame that the bloody servers just seem to time out , we had this happen twice (red chain with the counter) while we were involved in an intense hostage situation! I got a flickering texture with a M4 buttstock so changed in round with a non-flickering one too. :p

Some random screens:

Think I found the edge of the world here?

While my mates were trying to find a good spawn point I stumbled across this ship. Think it had already been looted when I got there though, didn't find much stuff.

We found a random little reservoir while heading for an airstrip.

This is where the hostage situation began. Ran into the police station on the airstrip to be greeted by fully geared guy proneing looking down the stairs. Asked him if he's friendly to which he replied in a filthy French accent 'are you friendly', we slowly backed out to check the surroundings. Out of the top window someone started shooting at my mate who was outside but luckily they didn't hit him once. We surrounded the police station where tense 'negotiations' began and lasted until the French guys started shouting at us in French. This was about 30 minutes in with neither us or them budging, if they had come out the would have been shot by my mate facing the door, if they would have come to the upper window they would have been shot by me and my other mate. We didn't dare go inside as we were all pretty geared and they had the upper hand. The the bloody server disconnected!

Was intense though, this is from my viewpoint:

Loads more happened including my mate luring out a guy at the car park who had killed 4 fully geared people somehow! Managed to put him down but that's a story for another day. :p
