***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Warning!!!!

Many people today have reported losing there chars because of constant server resets which is only happening since the last patch. Im not going to play today until its fixed. Just letting people know.

Trouble is the game is not very GPU intensive it is more CPU so they will optimize it to fully use all the cores first, if they pull that off the performance could be insane.

I have to say for one im thankful for people like DG posting updates on the progress of patches and tweets from rocket etc. Pretty much most subforums and big game threads have people who try and help out by making stickies, combining servers etc, i dont see this as any different.

Although ive purchased the standalone im currently not playing it much at all, but im enjoying watching the progress, and keeping an eye on any new versions being implemented.

Theres plenty of people posting garbage as it is so the fact that DG actually posts some useful information is fine by me.

Im still waiting for the spawning of gear to be sorted and some more survival features (hunting etc) before im tempted back.

We're waiting on a hotfix to cure the crashes/server restarts that are happening every 20mins or so.

Alpha patches - You got to love them :D

Just hope the hotfix isn't like the last hotfix :P

Is anyone else having problems with lag recently in DZS, it seems to be server side 'cos i usually roam about with two or three people, even up to 6 people and we all get the spikes at the same time and i have a MSI lightning which has ram LEDS and they blink like crazy everytime it lag spikes?

edit Ah nevermind, i actually decided to look something up for once

Isn't that normal with the patches though? The servers are updated, then rebooted, the connections to the hive have to be redone and therefore if you connect to a server before then it respawns you. To be fair you usually get a warning as you connect to the server if this is the case.

Either way three of us have played on various servers post patch today and none of us had any problems with our regular or hardcore characters.

No it was happening more than usual earlier today, i read that a hotfix for servers was sent out so should be good now.

add me on steam ill take you round if you want help you get geared up :)

I might take you up on that.

I played for a few hours last night but to honest I got no where. I died of starvation after searching what seemed like 100+ houses.. All I found was a rucksack and a baseball bat to add to my useful sewing kit.

After reviving, I re-spawn back where I started and got to do the whole thing again.. I have yet to find one item of food. Is there something i'm doing wrong? Can the fridges be opened?

4 hours of nothing.. I don't get it?

I'm trying to get to a point to meet my brothers but i die of starvation before i get there :p

brick buildings often have tuna or food in back room on cooker some flats in kitchens have tuna shops obviously. i would personally go low pop server head behrizino first check lower then upper town which has two supermarkets and plenty of hotels on corners.

then go up to new city Svetloyarsk which is 5 minutes run straight up then you go left from that you at airfield another 4 or 5 minutes.

Svetloyarsk

do that you'll end up with a gun and food and back pack :)

So I bit the bullet, not literally or in game yet, and bought the Supporters edition from the Bohemia site. It has given me Arma II, OA, a few other addons and DayZ.

I bought it after reading about being able to setup your own server and as I have a dual CPU server sitting in my rack doing nothing I thought I would have a look at turning it in to a DayZ server.

There seems to be a lot of consusion and change with DayZ but I found OpenDayZ and went about trying to get that up and running. The problem is that an @DayZ directory keeps getting mentioned and I do not have an @DayZ folder in the Steam download. I have Steamapps/Common/[Arma II / Operation Arrowhead / DayZ]. It seems they have put DayZ in its own folder which now makes the majority of the server install and config guides I have come across incorrect.

Does anyone have a link to a server install guide that would match DayZ being installed in to its own directory by Steam as a starting point rather than being in a @DayZ folder under Operation Arrowhead or somewhere else.

I would also love to hear for anyone also running a server on info like speed and size requirements for the MySQL DB location, DB growth rates, Mem usage (I understand this is minimum) and CPU scaling. The server I am using has dual L5520s in it which I may change to X5650s depending on how well they do. Also, what sort of network bandwidth does the game take up. I am on 200Mbit fibre but may step up to 1Gbps for this and other reasons.

Lastly, although I am many miles away so will probably suffer some terrible lag, would love to join up with one or more to have a play at this. I do have an 8 hour time difference from the UK though so the weekend is probably better.

If setting up servers or anything else I have asked about is for some reason taboo here then let me know and I will remove it. 50 pages of thread are a bit difficult to trawl through to try to get up to speed.

Thanks
RB
