So I bit the bullet, not literally or in game yet, and bought the Supporters edition from the Bohemia site. It has given me Arma II, OA, a few other addons and DayZ.
I bought it after reading about being able to setup your own server and as I have a dual CPU server sitting in my rack doing nothing I thought I would have a look at turning it in to a DayZ server.
There seems to be a lot of consusion and change with DayZ but I found OpenDayZ and went about trying to get that up and running. The problem is that an @DayZ directory keeps getting mentioned and I do not have an @DayZ folder in the Steam download. I have Steamapps/Common/[Arma II / Operation Arrowhead / DayZ]. It seems they have put DayZ in its own folder which now makes the majority of the server install and config guides I have come across incorrect.
Does anyone have a link to a server install guide that would match DayZ being installed in to its own directory by Steam as a starting point rather than being in a @DayZ folder under Operation Arrowhead or somewhere else.
I would also love to hear for anyone also running a server on info like speed and size requirements for the MySQL DB location, DB growth rates, Mem usage (I understand this is minimum) and CPU scaling. The server I am using has dual L5520s in it which I may change to X5650s depending on how well they do. Also, what sort of network bandwidth does the game take up. I am on 200Mbit fibre but may step up to 1Gbps for this and other reasons.
Lastly, although I am many miles away so will probably suffer some terrible lag, would love to join up with one or more to have a play at this. I do have an 8 hour time difference from the UK though so the weekend is probably better.
If setting up servers or anything else I have asked about is for some reason taboo here then let me know and I will remove it. 50 pages of thread are a bit difficult to trawl through to try to get up to speed.
Thanks
